Commercial Art Instructor

Position Summary

The Commercial Art Instructor provides career-focused instruction in visual communication and design, preparing students for entry-level employment in commercial art, graphic design, digital media, and related creative fields. The instructor combines practical industry experience with effective teaching strategies to deliver hands-on, project-based learning aligned with workforce and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver classroom and lab instruction in commercial art topics, including: Principles of design, color theory, typography, and layout Digital illustration and image editing. Graphic design for print and digital media. Branding, advertising, and visual marketing concepts. Portfolio development and professional presentation. Basic production workflows and file preparation. Teach industry-standard software and tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent)Develop lesson plans, projects, and assessments aligned with program outcomes and industry expectations. Provide hands-on, project-based instruction that reflects real-world commercial art assignments. Evaluate student performance through projects, critiques, exams, and portfolio reviews. Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student progress records in compliance with institutional and accreditation requirements. Support students with varied learning styles, skill levels, and cultural backgrounds. Maintain instructional labs, equipment, and digital resources. Guide students in professional practices, including client communication, deadlines, and workplace expectations. Participate in advisory committees, curriculum development, program review, and continuous improvement activities. Stay current with industry trends, design tools, and emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications

Adobe Certified Professional in ADOBE2024, and a minimum of 6 years of documented experience in Commercial Art, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field. Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard design software and tools. Strong portfolio demonstrating professional-level work in commercial art or design. Ability to teach practical design concepts in a hands-on, lab-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching or training experience in a career technical, vocational, or adult education setting. Experience preparing students for entry-level employment or freelance work. Familiarity with print production and digital publishing processes. Experience working with non-traditional or ESL students.

Work Environment

Classroom and computer lab/studio setting. Day, and/or evening schedule may . be required. Combination of lecture, demonstrations, studio work, and student mentoring.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $57,000.00 per year
