Position Summary
The Apprentice – Construction (IN Region) is an entry-level role designed for individuals seeking to learn and grow within the construction trade under the guidance of experienced Foremen, Journeymen, and Superintendents. Apprentices assist with plumbing, piping, and other construction tasks while gaining exposure to multiple trades. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and requires adaptability, strong work ethic, and the ability to follow instructions carefully. The Apprentice will learn the technical skills, safety practices, and industry standards necessary for long-term success in the construction industry.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist Journeymen and Foremen in diagnosing issues and performing construction or plumbing repairs.
  • Install, assemble, maintain, and repair pipes, plumbing systems, and fixtures.
  • Locate and repair water line leaks, remove clogs, and assist in testing system functionality.
  • Install or repair appliances and fixtures such as dishwashers, water heaters, toilets, sinks, and related equipment.
  • Learn to interpret blueprints and technical drawings to support installation and repair work.
  • Follow direction on job sites and act as a helper on more complex assignments.
  • Learn and apply relevant state laws, regulations, and local building codes.
  • Perform assigned duties related to construction, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical tasks as directed by a Foreman or Superintendent.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
  • Embrace and promote GEMCO's culture of safety and professionalism at all times.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.; able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation; willing to travel to job sites across Indiana (occasional overnights/overtime as needed).
  • Willing to enroll in/complete a registered apprenticeship or trade training (plumbing/mechanical/electrical).
  • Basic math/measurement skills (read a tape measure; fractions/decimals).
  • Safety-first mindset; ability to obtain OSHA-10 within 30 days of hire.
  • Comfortable using basic hand/power tools and following written/verbal instructions.
  • Team-oriented, punctual, and professional communication.
