Position Description: Pharmacy Technician

Reporting to: Pharmacist in Charge

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Basic Function

Under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge, the Pharmacy Technician supports the daily operations of the outpatient pharmacy and ensures safe, accurate, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care. This position works closely with providers, care teams, and other Community Health Center (CHC) staff to support high-quality primary care services, optimize 340B program compliance, and enhance access for medically underserved populations.

Essential Functions

  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients dropping off or picking up prescriptions, ensuring a welcoming and patient-centered experience.
  • Answer phone calls promptly and professionally, directing questions to the appropriate staff as needed.
  • Accurately enter and process prescription orders within the pharmacy management system; consult with the pharmacist when clarification or clinical review is needed.
  • Retrieve, count, label, and prepare medications to support pharmacist verification.
  • Create and maintain accurate patient profiles, including demographics, allergies, insurance information, and medication histories.
  • Assist pharmacists in accordance with federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations, CHC policies, and applicable 340B program requirements.
  • Follow all procedures related to operating a compliant 340B pharmacy, including correct patient identification, prescriber validation, accumulator accuracy, and documentation of eligible encounters.
  • Support pharmacy record-keeping, audit readiness, and quality assurance activities.
