Position Summary- PRN RN DAYS/Nights

Performs the functions of Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care for Inpatient rehabilitation Unit of adult patients (18 years and older) for an assigned shift. The RN is responsible for adhering to all Standards of Nursing Practice as they apply to managing patients, supplies and equipment under the direction of the Director of Nursing.

Position Education / Qualifications

Valid RN license in the state of practice

  • Valid RN license in the state of Louisiana or equivalent compact licensure.
  • Associate's degree (ASN) or equivalent from two-year college ; Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Proficiency in medical documentation practices.
  • Ability to perform clinical skills effectively.
  • Strong patient assessment skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on patient education.

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct patient assessments and monitor vital signs to ensure optimal health outcomes.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Document medical information accurately in patient electronic medical records
  • Provide care for inpatient rehabilitation patients.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by adhering to infection control protocols.

Physical Requirements: The position requires a considerable amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds. Any work load exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance. The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment on supports, push beds throughout the hospital, and perform external cardiac compressions. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety. A significant amount of writing is required. Trips to various departments will be required.

Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of their time in an air conditioned environment with varying exposure to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have heavy exposure to infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

Personal Protective Equipment: This position requires high exposure to infectious wastes such as blood and body fluids that mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns and goggles for every actual or potential exposure.
