Position Summary
The Lead Mechanic is responsible for administering service, maintenance, and repairs of LEO's fleet of vehicles and equipment. Performs routine service, accounts for repair/maintenance data, and tests machines/vehicles ensuring proper and safe operation. Performs cleaning and maintenance duties around LEO shop and yards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
· Performing routine service/maintenance on LEO's vehicles and equipment. Routine service includes: Oil change, filter change, fluids checked/changed, grease, tire rotation, safety inspection, etc.
- Performing equipment/vehicles repairs as repair needs arise. Repairs include: Tire change, hydraulic lines repair/replacement, alternators, batteries, hydraulic pumps, motors, brakes/brake pads, hydraulic cylinder change, bucket repair, etc.
- Collecting and recording service/repair data. All data is to be submitted to the Fleet Manager.
- Ordering appropriate vehicle/equipment parts for service, maintenance, and repair.
- Receiving and handling incoming materials to LEO yards. Accepting corresponding invoices and paperwork and submitting through proper channels.
- Occasional light welding.
- Running parts to and from vendors, job sites, LEO shop/yards. Assisting in the transport of LEO vehicles/equipment.
- Loading and unloading trucks and hauling and hoisting materials. Occasional operation of forklift.
- Cleaning and organizing LEO repair shop (equipment organization, light landscaping, snow removal, trash removal, shop/building maintenance, etc).
- Operating machines and vehicles to check operating efficiency and safety.
- Building relationships and interacting with vendors and third-party mechanic outfitters.
- Coordinating what tasks LEO can accomplish in shop and which tasks are to be contracted to a third party.
- Assisting in the training of Associate Mechanics.
- Ensuring that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- High School Diploma or GED (Preferred).
- Possess a valid Virginia State Driver's License and Class A CDL.
- Forklift Certified (Preferred).
- Mechanical knowledge and ability to operate a variety of machinery and vehicles: Dump Trucks, Tractor Trailers, Excavators, Loaders, Dozers, Rollers, Forklifts, Articulated Boom Lift, etc.
- Knowledge of applicable safety precautions, OSHA standards, and Virginia Motor Vehicle Law.
- Ability to use a variety of handheld equipment/tools, properly and safely.
- Five years' working experience in an auto/equipment mechanical environment.
- Operational knowledge of air brakes systems.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work independently and to operate in a constantly changing work environment, prioritizing important tasks.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Basic computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.
- Ability to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls. Ability to reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to stand; walk – 75% of time.
- Ability to sit - 25% of time.
- Ability to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl - 30% of time.
- Ability to use close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects up to 75lb.
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, rain, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Ability to work in a noisy work environment.
Hours of Service
LEO Construction Company's normal work week is Monday-Thursday from 0600 hrs hrs., with overtime available frequently on Fridays from 0600 hrs hrs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $35.00 per hour
