We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician to join our ophthalmology practice. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in patient care, medical procedures, and ophthalmic technology, with a focus on delivering exceptional service and support to both patients and clinicians. This role involves performing clinical assessments, assisting with diagnostic procedures, managing medical records, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Responsibilities
- Conduct patient intake by collecting medical histories, and updating electronic medical records using systems such as NextGen or other EMR platforms.
- Prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations, ensuring comfort and safety throughout the process.
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations by performing tests such as visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and dilation procedures using aseptic technique.
- Maintain clinical cleanliness and adhere to infection control protocols to ensure patient safety and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on eye health, medication instructions, and post-procedure care while maintaining clear communication aligned with medical terminology and physiology knowledge.
- Manage medical records efficiently, including documentation of procedures, coding for billing purposes, and ensuring confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.
- Collaborate with front desk staff to coordinate appointments, process insurance claims, and facilitate patient flow within the clinic environment.
Experience
- Prior experience working in an ophthalmology or optometry clinic is highly preferred; familiarity with clinic operations enhances effectiveness in this role.
- Demonstrated proficiency in patient care activities such as vital signs measurement, intake procedures, and clinical testing.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to ophthalmology, anatomy of the eye, and physiology principles is essential for accurate communication and documentation.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as NextGen or similar platforms is required for efficient record keeping and billing processes.
- Understanding of medical coding and billing processes ensures accurate reimbursement for services provided.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and procedures while maintaining high standards of professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
