AtkinsRéalis's Minerals and Metals team in Canada is made up of more than 400 employees who work on large-scale projects to support mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, or mine closure and capabilities in the study, design, and construction of mining projects across a wide range of mining and processing methods and commodities. The Process Engineering team is looking for a Hydrometallurgist Engineer to work on a variety of projects, particularly related to extractive metallurgy, from mineral processing and concentration to hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes for metal production.

The Hydrometallurgist will report to the Director of Process Engineering. The position is based in Toronto, Ontario and offers a hybrid work schedule.

Your role
  • Development of flowsheets, piping and instrumentation diagrams, mass and energy balances, process design criteria, technology package trade-offs and selections, and optimization of process designs using the latest technology in industry.
  • Engage with clients to understand project requirements and participate in the preparation of proposals and other business development initiatives.
  • Identify, scope, and manage process test work programs at external laboratories or client-based site labs.
  • Strong multitasking abilities to manage the multiple process activities at a time, across all phases of a project lifecycle.
  • Effectively communicate project development through preparation of technical reports. 
About you
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Processing Engineering, with a strong foundation in process design, technology selection, and mineral processing systems.
  • 5+ years of progressive, relevant experience since completion of a Bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated advanced technical writing, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and client outcomes through high-quality reports, design documentation, technical presentations, published papers, and/or active participation in technical committees.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada, or eligibility to obtain registration
  • Proven ability to develop complete process engineering deliverables, including process design criteria, mass and heat balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, process control philosophies, and the technical mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Experience in developing flowsheets together with heat and mass balances using software such as METSIM.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $100,200 - $137,700 annually) (Only Applicable to Ontario). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
