This role will be based at our Manufacturing site in Cowes, Isle of Wight. What will you be doing? As Junior Mechanical Design Engineer, where we are a bespoke manufacturer of load and angle monitoring equipment, you will work with and gain experience from the wider Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic and Software Engineering teams. Working alone or as part of those teams, you’ll help to provide solutions and support to a wide range of industries including Renewables, Marine, Oil & Gas and several niche markets. The designs and drawings you’ll be working on will help ensure safe, innovative & cost-effective solutions for our customers as well as supporting our Sales and Production departments. You will: Ensure the mechanics of equipment offered suit the application. Provide mechanical design models and drawings which realise the design. Be aware of the quality assurance requirements of projects, and to ensure the necessary quality procedures are allowed for in quotations. Prepare manufacturing instructions for the mechanical aspects of customer and internal projects with respect to the above activities. Investigate problems relating to mechanical aspects of designs and initiate corrective actions to avoid reoccurrence. Assist with the mechanical input requirement for quotations. Discuss the mechanical design parameters of projects directly within our Engineering team and with customers’ using the most appropriate communication method. Visit customers on occasions where there is a high technical input, or to discuss mechanical problems. Adapt equipment when existing or standard equipment is not available and there is no suitable equipment available on the market. Review and process customer order information supplied to the department. Communicate with electronics and/or software engineers as appropriate to ensure the compatibility of equipment, during both quotation and production stages. Liaise with and support production staff with regards to providing solutions to manufacturing/test/calibration requirements and techniques. As Junior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will get: A minimum standard starting salary of £28,000 depending on experience Company Pension Scheme Annual salary review 23 days plus bank holidays (up to 25 days with 5 years’ service) An extra day’s holiday to take on Christmas Eve each year Access to our buy and sell holiday scheme Opportunity for flexible working Electric Vehicle salary sacrifice scheme Discounts and savings via our employee benefits portal Health and wellbeing support via our Employee Assistance Programme Company wide volunteering scheme To join our team, you will need: BEng or MEng in an appropriate Engineering subject (preferably Mechanical based) is essential Experience with CAD, ideally Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor Demonstrated interest in mechanical design, including relevant extracurricular or practical experience Experience managing CAD data using systems such as Autodesk Vault Competent in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), supported by validated hand calculations.
