SUMMARY Prepares tooling and materials for the manufacturing of composite mast systems, including winding, baking, grinding, machining, bonding, & finishing. Pays close attention to quality requirements, lean manufacturing processes, safety procedures, and proper documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Assist in the preparation of processing carbon fiber ribbon for winding operation.
Utilize tow motor and overhead crane to load and unload tube arbors.
Program and operate carbon fiber winding machine.
Prepare tubes for baking process
Remove tubes from arbors and prepare for grinding operation.
Set up, operate, and maintain, centerless grinder.
Operate horizontal band saw to cut material to required length.
Bond, fill, sand, and smooth successive layers of material on tubes to required finish specifications free from wrinkles, air pockets and voids following directions and instructions.
Measure and layout features using jigs, fixtures, and measuring equipment.
Set up and operate manual lathe to machine tubing to required length.
Set up and operate Vertical CNC machining center to machine holes and features on tubes.
Wash and transport tubing after machining operations.
Apply adhesive and similar materials following templates, guides or specific dimensions and sequences.
Route, drill, trim, and sand to blueprint dimensions and tolerances.
Assist in the development of shop aids, procedures, work instructions, and layout of work cell.
Check expiration dates of materials prior to use, prepare proper mixes of resins and catalysts.
May make continuity checks on work in progress and may monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Maintain records as required. Supports the quality process by maintaining work area in an orderly condition by returning tools, equipment and materials to storage areas.
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to logically plan work steps needed to complete complex assemblies. Paint/bodywork experience is a plus. No known allergies to epoxy agents. Skilled with hand tools (saws, grinders, routers, drills).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Requires High School diploma or GED. Must be able to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions, detailed blueprints and other similar authorized drawings and documents, and must be capable of doing basic mathematical calculations. Must be able to use hand tools, such as rollers, paper cutters, scissors, X-acto knives, electric heat gun and fixtures such as molds and mandrels. Ability to use measuring instruments such as scales and protractors and calipers. Familiarity with common shop tools such as band saws, disk sanders, drill press, wood lathe, etc. Must be able to become certified to wear a respirator; able to work in a loud environment; work extended hours as required; and be able to lift assemblies weighing up to 50 lbs. 3 to 5 years' experience required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret written instructions, correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees within the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and the metric system.
Must be able to read gauges and easily interpret drawing dimensions.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
