About this Role

As a Safety Intern, you will assist in implementing and maintaining a safe work environment by conducting inspections, assisting with training, and contributing to safety initiatives, gaining hands-on experience in safety management.

What you will do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Inspections: Assist in conducting regular safety inspections of the distribution center to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Training Assistance: Support the development and delivery of safety training materials and sessions for employees.
  • Incident Reporting and Investigation: Assist in documenting and investigating workplace incidents, gathering information, and preparing reports.
  • Safety Program Support: Participate in safety meetings, committees, and initiatives to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and other safety-related documentation.
  • Data Analysis: Assist in analyzing safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned: Support other safety-related projects and tasks as needed.

Who are you?

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree at an accredited school, preferably in a safety-related field:.

  • Kinesiology

  • Industrial Hygiene
  • Safety Management
  • Physics: Medical or Pre-Medical
  • Sports Medicine
  • Occupational Therapy and related undergraduate "Pre-OT" degrees
  • Occupational Safety and Health
  • Mechanical Engineering w/ Ergonomic and Safety Focus

  • Applicants must have completed 30 semester hours before the internship starts and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic knowledge of safety regulations and principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Interns may work up to 30 hours during the spring semester.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in a distribution center or warehouse environment.

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations.

  • Experience with safety software or data analysis tools.

The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
