Job Description Summary:
Position Responsibilities- Clinical interface: Facilitates preoperative procedure. Assists attending surgeon as either a first or second assistant; teaches fundamental operating room techniques including aspect technique, trying knots, Hemostasis, tissue handling, wound closure and operating room techniques. Acts as a consultant to operating room and house staff personnel concerning surgery protocols and patient care as designated by the supervising physician.
- Exhibits professional conduct in the provision of patient care. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Works cooperatively with coworkers, physicians and supervisors. Displays ability to adjust to variable work schedule and patient volume; accepts and implements administrative medical changes and decisions as directed.; adheres to Mount Sinai Medical Center attendance policy as stated in the Employee Handbook.
- Performs on boarding into the role and team. Implements and monitors the orientation program within the respective team. Trains employees in the assigned responsibilities making sure the respective policies and guidelines are followed.
- Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with co-workers and management staff; assists the OR Director in resolving conflicts when necessary.
- Supports the OR Director's communication initiatives. Informs the team of any departmental and/or hospital news, updates, issues, requests, general situations, etc.
- Provides input to the OR Director on the employees' performances on a timely basis; promotes professional development and motivates staff.
- Creates scheduling, call assignments, and cross training schedules; reviews vacation requests and approval guidelines with consultation of the OR Director.
- Collects productivity reports from each member on a daily basis and submits to Director weekly.
- Monitors employee performance and conducts annual performance evaluations.
- Ensures for continuous education and licenses renewals.
- Reviews schedule and low census options with OR director to promote financial efficiency.
- Liaises with the Medical Office and collaborates with the OR Director in providing leadership support and promoting surgeon satisfaction.
- Promotes and participates in hospital performance improvement activities including, but not limited to, data collection, participation in interdisciplinary teams(s)) and analysis and implementation of team findings.
- License/Registration/Certification

- Education
If a PA, Associate degree with PA license; Bachelor's degree in area of expertise preferred. If a SA, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred/Foreign medical school graduate. If a House Physician, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred. Must be a graduate of an Allopathic US Medical School or a school recognized or approved by the US Office of Education/Graduate of an Allopathic International Medical School.
- Experience
Minimum of 2 years of prior PA/SA/House Physician experience.
