GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
North Pacific Seafoods, Inc., headquartered in Edmonds, WA, operates several seafood processing plants in Alaska. We share our office space, and have combined our accounting functions, with other sister companies that also operate seafood plants in Alaska. Our office is located in beautiful downtown Edmonds. It is a very walkable area, located one block from Main Street and 10 minutes from the waterfront.
We are seeking a Cost Accounting Manager to join our Accounting team. The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for working closely with plant managers and office staff to maintain accurate Cost of Production (COP), as well as supporting the organization's budgeting and forecasting processes. The ideal candidate understands the fast-paced, highly seasonal nature of the Alaska fisheries and is comfortable working with data across multiple systems and cross functional teams.
This role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to communicate effectively. This position is exempt from overtime (not paid overtime) and reports to the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager.
This is an in office position full time while training. Once trained, this position may work one day a week remotely.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cost of Production
- Maintains and updates production costs for fish species, processing runs and packaging. Reports on seasonal production costs during and post-season.
- Tracks raw material (catch) costs, yield variances, and byproduct utilization.
- Tracks intercompany and outside vendor invoices related to raw fish sales and purchases, as well as outside tendering and byproduct costs.
- Completes final review and approval of coding related to product costing. Ensures appropriate accruals are recorded in COP for outstanding purchase orders.
- Reviews and prepares journal entries for estimated packaging materials including tin, salt and fresh/frozen materials.
Inventory Management
- Prepares and reports on inventory levels; ensures accurate costs are attached to products and reports on significant changes, week over week.
- Assists with reconciliation of production data, shipping records, and inventory locations to finalize production results.
Financial Analysis
- Supports month-end close through preparation and analysis of Manufacturing Statements.
- Assists with budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling for seasonal operations.
General
- Backs up other accounting functions as needed. Cross trains across department and sister companies to ensure continuity of coverage among staff.
- Assists with month end, year-end, and annual audit functions.
- Works to continuously improve processes and documentation.
- Develops long-term professional working relationships.
- Represents the company professionally and appropriately in interactions with others.
- Maintains accurate, compliant and organized paper and electronic business records.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing, production, or cost accounting.
- Strong understanding of cost allocation, inventory accounting, and month-end close processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including ability to work with data extracts, create and use pivot tables, and perform data reconciliation.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain accurate records across multiple locations.
- Ability to work additional hours as needed during peak periods including budgeting and year end.
- Influential, collaborative, professional demeanor. Effective oral and written communications.
- Willingness and ability to work on site in the office.
- Willingness to travel to Alaska-based operations as needed.
- Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
HELPFUL, BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Alaska seafood industry experience.
- Experience with Sage, Northscope, DocLink, or Innova.
