Lead Security Estimator

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Lead Security Estimator to manage the estimating process for security-related projects, including system design, material costing, labor assessments, and proposal development. This role requires deep technical knowledge of security systems, strong analytical skills, and the ability to lead estimating efforts from concept through final bid submission.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Proposal Development

• Lead the full estimating process for security projects, including electronic security, access control, intrusion detection, CCTV, and related systems.
• Review drawings, specifications, RFPs, and site assessments to develop accurate cost estimates.
• Prepare detailed proposals, including bill of materials, labor breakdowns, subcontractor quotes, and pricing summaries.
• Evaluate vendor and subcontractor bids for accuracy, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.

Technical Design & Scope Planning

• Develop preliminary system designs and layouts based on client requirements and industry standards.
• Identify equipment needs, installation requirements, and integration considerations across multiple security platforms.
• Coordinate with engineering and project management to ensure accuracy and constructability of designs.

Leadership & Coordination

• Lead and mentor junior estimators, providing technical guidance and quality control.
• Collaborate closely with sales, project management, engineering, and procurement teams to align estimate strategy with company standards.
• Act as the subject matter expert during pre-construction meetings and client discussions.

Cost Analysis & Risk Management

• Analyze project risks, constraints, site conditions, and potential cost impacts.
• Maintain current knowledge of product pricing, labor rates, and market trends.
• Optimize estimates to improve competitiveness while maintaining profitability and compliance.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate estimate records, revisions, and project files.
• Produce cost summaries and executive-level reports for go/no-go decisions.
• Ensure all estimates adhere to industry codes, safety standards, and contractual requirements.

Qualifications

• 5–8+ years of experience in security estimating or related field (security integration, low-voltage systems, construction estimating, etc.).
• Strong understanding of security system components (CCTV, access control, intrusion, networking, etc.).
• Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Proficiency with estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Accubid, WinBid, Excel).
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience leading or supervising estimating teams.
• NICET, PSP, or other relevant certifications.
• Experience working with government, commercial, or industrial projects.
• Knowledge of industry codes (NFPA, NEC, UL standards, etc.).
