About The Role

As a Staff Data Scientist at Pluralsight, you will be instrumental in leading our Data Science and Machine Learning (DSML) initiatives. Your expertise will drive high-impact projects that enhance our product features and user experience, directly contributing to our strategic growth. You will be responsible for end-to-end project execution, from problem definition and data exploration to model development, deployment, and evaluation. Collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders, you will translate complex data insights into actionable strategies. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep technical mastery, leadership capabilities, and a passion for innovation. You will also mentor junior data scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning within the team.

You will stay at the forefront of industry trends, evaluating emerging technologies for potential adoption to maintain our competitive edge. Your ability to communicate complex insights through clear visualizations and presentations will be key in influencing decision-making across technical and non-technical audiences. This is a remote position with a flexible work arrangement, primarily working from home or our Westlake/Dallas, TX office on-site Tuesday through Thursday, with remote flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or M.S.) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
  • 7+ years of professional experience in data science, applied AI, or machine learning, with a proven track record of delivering impactful, product-oriented projects
  • Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, large language models (LLMs), and statistical methods, with practical deployment experience
  • Proficiency in Python and interactive development environments such as Jupyter
  • Experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Kubernetes) for scalable data processing and analytics
  • Hands-on experience with ML platforms (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, MLflow, Hugging Face) and MLOps practices
  • Strong foundation in software engineering best practices, including version control, CI/CD, and reproducibility
  • Excellent problem-solving, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience with data visualization tools and lightweight app frameworks like Streamlit

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute comprehensive data science and AI projects, overseeing all phases from problem formulation to deployment and monitoring
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project goals, prioritize initiatives, and ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Develop, implement, and optimize advanced machine learning models and algorithms to enhance product features and business processes
  • Mentor and coach data scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; evaluate their applicability and advocate for their adoption
  • Translate complex data insights into clear, compelling visualizations and presentations for diverse audiences
  • Ensure model deployment and operationalization adhere to best practices in MLOps and scalable infrastructure
  • Contribute to establishing scalable data pipelines, data governance, and reproducibility standards
  • Support product teams with data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions and feature development
