Opening at Good Tern Co-op in the Prepared Foods Department/Deli.

Schedule requirements: Part-time and Full-time options available. 16 hour minimum required for consideration.

Compensation: $ $18, depending on experience

Position Summary:

The deli team member is responsible for preparing foods, ingredients, and stations used in the cooking process, maintaining the kitchen and ensuring it is clean and sanitized.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides exceptional customer service.
  • Prepares cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep.
  • Performs routine kitchen tasks.
  • Follows the prep list created to plan duties.
  • Labels and stocks all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
  • Prepares simple dishes, such as breakfast, salads, sandwiches, soups, and entrees.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash and compost.
  • Ensures that all food and other items are stored properly.
  • Washes dishes and performs a variety of cleaning and sanitizing tasks.
  • Removes non-saleable food and documents shrink; logs food waste at end of day, and properly disposes of waste food.
  • Maintains clean workspace throughout the day.
  • Complies with all nutrition, sanitation, and safety requirements; wears personal protective equipment as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Communicate in an open, respectful, and honest manner with everyone.
  • Communicate proactively with the GM regarding workflow, problems, suggestions, etc.
  • Attend team and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Be punctual for scheduled work shifts and can get to work in inclement weather.
  • Perform the required amount of work in a timely fashion with minimal errors.
  • Be neat and maintain good hygiene.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen, stand for the full shift, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and twist. Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds. Hand and finger dexterity, motor control, and eye/hand coordination are needed. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work is performed primarily in a small kitchen environment, which can be hot and humid. Noise level is moderate to loud. There is risk of being burned by utilizing hot equipment and handling hot dishes, and a risk of being cut by sharp objects.

Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:

  • Knowledge of basic cooking techniques
  • Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
