Set sail into the waves and join us for a great summer

The Boating Instructor will instruct and lifeguard boating while supporting the Waterfront Director in running a safe, fun aquatics program—and help guide campers through daily activities during off-waterfront hours.

This position begins in early June and ends in late August, which includes one week of staff training before campers arrive.

What else should I know about the position?

· Additional certification week (if needed) may include CPR, wilderness first aid, lifeguarding, canoeing, challenge course, hatchet throwing, archery, etc.

  • Between campers attend each session of overnight camp at Camp Natarswi.
  • We offer 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-week programs for our campers.
  • The Natarswi summer team consists of staff members.

Why Camp Natarswi?

For 88 years Camp Natarswi has been providing a unique camping experience for Girl Scouts. Camp Natarswi is a true wilderness paradise, providing a one-of-a-kind, rustic, Maine outdoor experience, all in the shadow of majestic Mt. Katahdin, Maine's highest peak. Natarswi hugs the shoreline of Lower Togue Pond and is located in Baxter State Park, home to awesome trails to hike, caves to explore, waterfalls to see, and peaks to climb.

Requirements:

  • Must be 19 years of age of older
  • Previous experience in two or more of the following watercrafts: lifeguarding, sailing, canoe, kayak, or paddleboard.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification or be currently certified.
  • Current lifeguard certification or ability to obtain.
  • Previous experience working with youth
  • Belief in the mission and core principals of Girl Scouting
  • Experience in a supervisory position
  • Passion and excitement for the outdoors.
  • Ability to prioritize the needs of campers and to communicate with and provide direction to campers and staff of varying age and skill levels.
  • Ability to provide constant supervision of campers and help campers navigate emotional well-being during their time at overnight camp.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to share living quarters with other staff (may include directly on-ground, primitive camping, rustic cabins, platform tents, or lodges).
  • Ability to establish and maintain boundaries with campers and fellow staff.
  • Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, integrity.
  • Ability to go without electronic devices for several hours or days at a time while on duty (excluding medically necessary devices).

Physical requirements:

Ability and willingness to perform tasks that exert physical effort, which may involve bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 40 pounds). Regular standing and prolonged periods of walking on rough and uneven terrain at camp is required as is working in the heat, sun exposure, and other weather conditions.
