SUMMARY: The Quality and Safety Manager is a high-functioning leadership role with full strategic and tactical ownership of safety and quality initiatives across both U.S. manufacturing facilities, Clinton, Iowa and El Paso, Texas. This position is central to creating and maintaining a culture of safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence, while protecting the integrity of products and processes from raw material intake through shipment.
In the area of safety, this role ensures full compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety protocols by developing, implementing, and tracking all safety-related programs and mandatory trainings. The manager oversees the administration and enforcement of PPE requirements, maintains up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS), leads incident response and root cause investigations, and coordinates safety committee activity at both plants. This includes managing the documentation necessary to pass regulatory inspections, customer audits, and third-party certifications without issue.
On the quality side, the Quality and Safety Manager is accountable for the performance and execution of the Quality Management System (QMS), including ownership of ISO 9001 certification. This includes establishing and maintaining controlled documents and standard operating procedures, supporting production part approval process (PPAP) activities, leading internal and external audits, managing nonconforming materials, and investigating customer complaints with corrective action implementation. The manager partners closely with cross-functional leaders in engineering, production, maintenance, and logistics to identify risks, implement corrective actions, and ensure customer quality standards are continuously met or exceeded.
The scope of this position requires frequent cross-site coordination, exceptional organizational leadership, and the ability to influence safety and quality outcomes across departments and disciplines. The candidate must be highly refined in communication and capable of representing the company professionally in one-on-one interactions with customers, especially in response to quality concerns, audit discussions, and process improvement initiatives. This role is instrumental in delivering safe, reliable, and compliant manufacturing performance while protecting the long-term interests of the company, its employees, and its customers.
Safety Leadership and Compliance:
- Provide overall safety leadership in accordance with company and OSHA standards
- Lead, coordinate, and document activities of safety committees
- Develop, organize, and maintain workplace inspection plans and safety communication (e.g., toolbox talks, job hazard analyses)
- Maintain and update SDS documentation for visibility and access
- Ensure PPE compliance and availability across both sites
Safety Training and Tracking:
- Administer all required safety training programs and track completion for both facilities
- Establish and monitor safety performance metrics
- Identify trends and implement corrective actions
- Review accident and incident reports, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions
- Maintain documentation of all safety programs and training records
Quality System Management:
- Maintain ISO 9001 certification and ensure Quality Management System integrity
- Serve as lead contact for all internal and external audits
- Own document control system and maintain controlled documents
- Create and update work instructions and standard operating procedures
- Maintain calibration program for all gauges and measurement equipment
- Support and manage the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) as required
Product and Process Quality:
- Manage customer complaints, lead root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions
- Ensure product quality meets specifications throughout production
- Provide training and support to production, engineering, and support teams
- Manage raw material and product containment at internal and customer locations
- Create and manage Certificates of Compliance (C of C) and Certificates of Analysis (C of A) for shipments
Additional Responsibilities:
- Administer nonconforming material process and coordinate material review board activities
- Coordinate internal audit schedules and follow up on corrective actions
- Perform all other duties as assigned or required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety & Health or related technical field preferred
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in a continuous manufacturing process environment
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with Safety Management Systems
- Detailed working knowledge of OSHA regulations
- OSHA 30 (required or must be obtained within 90 days)
- Quality Management System and quality certification responsibility
- ASQ certification (or equivalent) in quality and/or quality assurance is preferred
- Quality management certification is a plus
- Strong collaborative leadership style
- Strong project management skills
