*POSITION SUMMARY *
Perform mammography procedures to assist physicians with formulating a medical diagnosis, while complying with safety and regulatory requirements. Specifically conducts a range of digital mammography exams and other related procedures.
*Qualifications*
Licenses or Certifications: Associates or two-year degree in radiography. (RT) (M) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and any applicable state licensure are required. BCLS required. CEU credits must be maintained as required by ARRT.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *
Converses regularly with the fellow technologists, schedulers, nursing, insurance, and referring physicians concerning any issues that may arise.
Models a positive attitude towards other VRI team members, providers, and insurance companies.
Maintains open communication between departments and management on any issues or protocol changes that may arise.
Able to work independently.
Able to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions.
Maintains excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with patients, physicians, management, and co-workers.
Capable of performing in a stressful work environment as needed.
Displays concise, thorough, and accurate documentation skills.
Ensures operational excellence and quality of care in the facility: o Utilization of proper positioning to produce quality digital mammography and 3D examinations; o Provides high quality mammography services, while working in an efficient and effective manner; o Utilization of mammography equipment and protocols to produce mammography studies that offer diagnostic information and clinical detail to assist with interpretation.
Demonstrates knowledge of all applicable imaging equipment to provide a safe environment for patients and staff: o Utilization of information and skills necessary to perform assigned maintenance responsibilities; o Knowledge of startup procedures, calibration of equipment, and ability to troubleshoot; o Demonstrates ability to use a range of mammography equipment, hardcopy devices, image processing equipment, and other application computer systems (RIS, PACS, etc.).
Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety to provide a safe environment for patients and staff: o Utilization of appropriate radiation safety precautions, to include providing protection devices (lead aprons, etc.) and inquiring if females of child bearing age are pregnant before exposure occurs; o Conducts exams in a safe and proficient manner to limit exposure to patients and co- workers.
Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence with all related mammography exams and procedures:
Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the operation of mammography equipment, aseptic technique, universal precautions, documentation skills, etc.
