Position Summary

The plant electrical and automation (E&A) engineer is a key technical expert in our highly automated food manufacturing facility. You will have a high degree of autonomy and be relied upon to provide informal leadership to contractors, production, maintenance, technicians, and project teams. As a system owner/expert for automation, process control, MES, Factory Automation Systems (FAS), Wonderware System Platform/Aveva, digitalization (DMO), and electrical distribution, you will be influential in creating a strategic vision for the future.

Key Responsibilities Operations Support
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting of existing electrical and automation systems (PLCs, VFDs, MCCs, sensors/instruments, valves/motors, Wonderware System Platform/Aveva, VMs and thin clients, Manufacturing Execution System/MES, Digital Manufacturing Operations (DMO), Vigilistics/CIP software, Wonderware Historian, industrial Ethernet networks, control panels, circuit breakers, etc.) – List platforms and system we wish for them to use, ex. SAP, AS400, etc.
  • Complete incident investigations for downtime and quality deviations to determine root cause and propose or implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Actively engage in Nestlé Continuous Excellence and TPM initiatives.
  • Provide coaching/training to mechanics and operators on the shop floor.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting for Manufacturing Execution System (MES) including communication to SAP as well as PLC interface code.
System Maintenance
  • Ensure existing electrical and automation systems are properly maintained.
  • Analyze the current E&A systems and install base to ensure continued maintainability and support; develop a digital roadmap or masterplan where necessary.
  • Coordinate regular system patching of FAS with IT and system users.
  • Maintain compliance to corporate standards regarding hardware, software, digital tools and security.
Project Management & Execution
  • Conduct estimation, and execution of medium to large scale electrical/automation/MES projects.
  • Develop and implement project descriptions, plans, timelines, resource requirements, costs, etc.
  • Interface with vendors, develop bid specifications, participate in design reviews, and factory acceptance testing.
  • Oversee installations and verify compliance with NFPA, OSHA, FDA, and Nestlé standards.
  • Responsibility for E&A/MES/Wonderware/FAS/DMO portion of projects.
Strategy & Mentorship
  • Share expertise and provide training to build the competencies of EA to peers and lower‑level employees.
  • Develop E&A team strategy including areas of MES/Wonderware/FAS/DMO (prioritization, planning, digital roadmaps, etc.).
Experience and Education Requirements
  • Associate’s degree that relates to controls, automation, electrical power, computer science, and/or electro‑mechanical fields and 3+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (as required for projects & on‑call support, but majority is M‑F first shift).
  • Minimal travel (typically 0‑5% for personal development training and project‑related site/vendor visits).
Skills
  • Rockwell Software (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000/500/5, FactoryTalk Asset Centre, RSLinx, RSNetworx, etc.).
  • Allen Bradley PLCs, VFDs, PanelViews.
  • Wonderware System Platform/Aveva (Archestra, InTalk, Historian, MES, etc.).
  • Industrial Networking (Ethernet, DeviceNet, ProfiNet).
  • National Electric Code.
  • Virtual Machines (VMware or Hyper‑V).
  • Design/Maintenance of Electrical Systems (480 VAC 3‑Phase, 120 VAC Single‑Phase, 24 VDC).
  • Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Siemens PLCs/VFDs.
  • Project Management.
  • Problem‑solving skills.
