Job Overview
Ecos Infantiles Learning Center is seeking a reliable and passionate Preschool Cook to prepare nutritious, well-balanced meals for the children in our care. This role is essential to supporting children's health, growth, and development while ensuring full compliance with CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) regulations and New Mexico Environmental Health Laws.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in food preparation, a commitment to child nutrition, and a desire to contribute to a positive early childhood environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesMeal Planning & Preparation
- Plan and prepare daily meals and snacks that meet CACFP guidelines
- Ensure meals are nutritious, age-appropriate, and appealing to children
- Create menus that follow CACFP meal pattern requirements and include a variety of food groups, flavors, and textures
Menu Development
- Assist in developing menus that promote healthy eating habits, cultural diversity, and food exploration
- Consider children's preferences while introducing new foods in a developmentally appropriate way
Dietary Accommodations
- Safely accommodate special dietary needs, food allergies, and restrictions as directed by families and approved by management
- Ensure all dietary accommodations remain CACFP-compliant
Sanitation & Food Safety
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen in compliance with New Mexico Environmental Health Laws
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and meal service procedures
- Implement CACFP food safety requirements consistently
Inventory Management
- Order food and supplies, manage inventory, and maintain accurate food records
- Monitor expiration dates and rotate stock appropriately
- Keep accurate CACFP "food book" documentation of food purchased and prepared
CACFP Compliance
- Maintain accurate meal counts and attendance records
- Stay current with CACFP regulations and requirements
- Attend all required CACFP and state trainings
Communication & Collaboration
- Work closely with center staff to support smooth mealtime routines
- Communicate menu information and dietary updates with families by maintaining an accurate and current menu on the parent board
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas daily
- Perform routine kitchen maintenance tasks as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience as a cook (childcare, school, or similar setting preferred)
- Knowledge of CACFP guidelines and meal pattern requirements (required or willingness to learn)
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow CACFP-compliant menus and recipes
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Flexible and adaptable to menu changes, dietary needs, and scheduling adjustments
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Culinary training or certification is a plus
Pay: $ $25.12 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
