About the Position
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Live-In Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide one-on-one care and support for an adult client with developmental and behavioral challenges in a private home setting. The ideal candidate is patient, attentive, and dedicated to helping the client live a comfortable, safe, and fulfilling life.
Responsibilities
- Assist the client with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting (diapered), and feeding.
- Support mobility, including walking, transferring, and ensuring safety during movement.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, engaging the client in activities that promote well-being.
- Manage behavioral needs related to autism with empathy, consistency, and professionalism.
- Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation, ensuring adherence to specific dietary needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of care and daily activities.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with the care team and family.
Requirements
- Experience working with mentally challenged, disabled, or behavioral clients.
- Must be fluent or proficient in sign language – the client is deaf and communicates through signing.
- Comfortable assisting with all activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Skilled in managing challenging behaviors, including self-injury and tantrums, with patience and professionalism.
- Seizure training preferred but not required.
- Licensed driver with a reliable vehicle preferred.
- CPR certification (required or willing to obtain).
- NJ CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or CHHA (Certified Home Health Aide) preferred – training available for the right candidate.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and able to pass a background check.
- Excellent communication, reliability, and patience are essential.
