The Summer Teen Activity Program provides teens who have an intellectual disability, ages 13 to 21, with a summer program option. Staff provide support to small groups of teens to participate in activities such as sports, movies, mini-golf and swimming throughout Mississauga, using public transportation to get to and from the activities.

Description of Duties

Summer Staff provide direct support to youth in activities within Mississauga. In addition, Summer Staff also have record-keeping and program-planning responsibilities, must attend weekly team meetings, and promote the inclusion of youth into community activities. Staff must be comfortable providing personal care support and supporting people who have complex support needs and who communicate using non-verbal behaviour. Staff must be comfortable participating in all activities with the youth including swimming and be physically fit to perform the essential duties of the job.

Qualifications

Developmental Services Worker Diploma or enrolled and actively pursuing this diploma.
Have experience working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability.

Equivalency

Social Services Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Worker Diploma, or a university degree in a related discipline
Have experience working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability.

Asset
Fluent in French
Ability to provide individualized support to those who have complex support needs.
Aptitude to learn quickly and to work independently.
Good verbal and written communication skills
Positive attitude along with excellent teamwork skills
