Principal Architect Job Description
Job Summary
Unique opportunity available for a Principal Architect in an established Architectural firm that specializes
in commercial, industrial and interior design projects. The firm is part of a publicly traded worldwide
consortium of AE firms serving a variety of industries.
Responsibilities and Duties
▪ Lead and manage a small but growing Architectural firm.
▪ Report to remote company officers.
▪ Business duties include directing and assisting the Office Manager with HR, bookkeeping AR / AP,
insurance, and benefits programs.
▪ HR duties include recruitment, hiring, and supervising all employees.
▪ Marketing duties include maintaining existing client base and fostering new business growth in
accordance with company goals. Attend project interviews and respond to RFP’s.
▪ Project duties include writing proposals, negotiating and formalizing contracts with Clients and
Consultants, serve as the signing Architect of Record, provide overall project management,
scheduling, directing staff Architects, Job Captains, and Draftspersons, and producing specifications.
▪ Navigate projects through governmental approval processes.
▪ Responsible for full code compliant solutions; supervise staff Architects in these tasks.
▪ Serve as office design leader; delegate design tasks to staff as skills allow.
▪ Responsible for selecting, drafting and signing appropriate AIA documents for all projects, in
coordination with the firm’s legal counsel when necessary.
▪ Comply with relevant codes, ordinances, industry standards, and standards of practice.
▪ Prepare client presentations and communications throughout the entire project.
▪ Prepare construction drawings using Revit.
▪ Prepare specifications using SpecLink Cloud.
▪ Supervise drafting staff as required.
▪ Supervise construction phase activities, reviews & certification of payment applications, shop drawing
reviews, and processing addenda & change orders.
▪ Perform other duties as assigned by company officers and as the job demands.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
▪ Licensed in Minnesota; NCARB Certification or Wisconsin license is strongly preferred.
▪ Minimum 15 years architectural project management experience.
▪ Business management skills will be taught on the job; but experience with basic bookkeeping,
human resources, and legal / ethical best practices area highly preferred.
▪ Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of building design and construction systems.
▪ Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, MS Word, Excel, and popular virtual meeting applications.
▪ Some specification writing experience required; training on SpecLink Cloud available in-house.
▪ Experience with Revit to review drawings is preferred; no drafting will be required.
▪ Experience with AIA Document software is preferred; but Office Manager will publish for you.
▪ Familiarity with various BOMA Area Calculation Methods is preferred, training is available.
▪ Experience with the MN Building Code, Accessibility Code, Fire Code, CCEB, and Energy Code.
▪ Strong personal organization and time management skills.
▪ Problem solving and decision-making skills.
▪ Self-motivated, detail oriented, positive attitude, and the ability to effectively work with others.
▪ Ability to perform unsupervised to achieve business results.
Compensation:
▪ Salary and benefits based on skill and experience
Pay: $123,349.17 - $148,549.53 per year
