Senior Design Engineer – Build Tool Be part of Red Bull Powertrains, where we push the boundaries of engineering excellence to deliver world-class Formula 1 Power Units. As we enter the next era of F1, we are strengthening our engineering capability to ensure our hardware is built, assembled, and raced with absolute precision.
We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of high-performance tooling solutions that directly support Power Unit build, validation, and race operations. This role is critical in enabling fast, repeatable, and reliable assembly and servicing of our 2026 Power Units.
The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design and delivery of engine build tooling and trackside race tooling. This includes concept generation, detailed design, validation, manufacture support, and continuous improvement based on factory and trackside feedback. You will apply engineering first principles to develop robust, lightweight, ergonomic, and reliable tooling solutions that meet demanding performance, packaging, and operational requirements. In addition, you will guide and mentor engineers, supporting their technical development while ensuring high engineering standards across the team.
Additionally, the Senior Design Engineer will deputize for the team leader when required and represent the team in engineering and program-focused meetings, ensuring that technical decisions align with project goals and company strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Own the design and development of engine build and trackside race tooling from concept through to release and operational use. Set and uphold the engineering standard for tooling design, documentation, and release quality within the team.
Deliver tooling solutions that enable efficient, safe, and repeatable Power Unit assembly, service, and installation in factory and at the track.
Apply engineering first principles to ensure tooling meets the requirements of the stakeholders in engineering and build. Produce high-quality CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings to company standards.
Ensure tooling designs consider transport, packaging, trackside handling, and serviceability.
Support tooling validation activities, including build trials, test environment usage, and trackside feedback.
Support and contribute to fault meetings, providing technical analysis, root cause input, and tooling-related resolution strategies.
Drive continuous improvement of tooling based on build efficiency, quality, and race operational feedback.
Support the Team Leader during technical and design reviews, providing expert input, challenge, and guidance to ensure robust engineering decisions.
Lead and contribute to design reviews, ensuring solutions are technically sound, practical, and aligned with program objectives.
Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers within build tooling. Represent the team in engineering design reviews. Mentor and support engineers, helping develop technical capability and judgement.
Deputize for the team leader as needed, taking responsibility for team operations and decision-making.
Work closely with Power Unit design engineering, manufacturing, quality, build, test, and race operations teams. Engage directly with engine build technicians and trackside personnel to ensure tooling meets real operation needs.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Strong experience in mechanical design, ideally within motorsport, automotive, aerospace, or high-performance engineering environments.
Proven experience designing precision tooling, fixtures, or service equipment. Excellent CAD capability with experience producing high-quality manufacturing drawings (ideally Siemens NX).
Strong understanding of mechanical fundamentals including structures, materials, tolerancing, and mechanisms.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Excellent communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence and guide others. Practical mindset with strong appreciation of manufacturing, assembly, and real-world usage.
At Red Bull Powertrains, we push the limits, fight for every victory, and get things done with relentless focus. Joining us means being part of a high-performance team that thrives on collaboration, trust, and ambition. We celebrate wins, learn from challenges, and take our work seriously—but not ourselves. Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy: bonuses, private healthcare, a pension scheme, on-site gym, free daily food, and many more!
Most importantly, you’ll play a key role in powering championship-winning cars. If you’re ready to be part of something extraordinary, apply now and help shape the future of F1.
