Reports To: Board of Directors

Supervises: Director of Golf, Golf Course Superintendent, Clubhouse Manager, Office Manager, and supporting staff

Position Summary

Founded in 1916 along the stunning north shore of Lake Bemidji, the Bemidji Town & Country Club (BTCC) is one of northern Minnesota's most historic and picturesque golf destinations. With nearly 400 members and a proud legacy that includes hosting the Birchmont and Vandersluis tournaments, state championships, and the 2016 Minnesota PGA Professional Championship, BTCC blends tradition, community, and exceptional golf into an experience unlike any other.

To continue supporting this rich heritage and ensure the club's long-term success, BTCC is introducing the role of General Manager. This new leadership position will unify all departments—Golf Operations, Grounds, Clubhouse, and Administration—while strengthening communication, service consistency, and strategic alignment. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will oversee daily operations, financial performance, staff leadership, and member satisfaction, all while honoring the club's tradition of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Provide collaborative leadership across all departments, ensuring alignment between the Director of Golf, Superintendent, Clubhouse Manager, and staff.

  • Preserve and promote BTCC's century-long culture of hospitality and community engagement.

  • Lead weekly management meetings to maintain operational continuity and accountability.

Board & Strategic Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, providing monthly reports, financial updates, and operational insights.

  • Assist the Board in shaping long-term strategic goals that honor BTCC's history while supporting future growth.

  • Implement Board policies and decisions with clarity and consistency.

Financial Oversight & Reporting

  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance with a focus on long-term sustainability.

  • Partner with the Office Manager to ensure accurate financial processes and reporting.

  • Present timely financial summaries and actionable insights to the Board.

Operations Management

  • Oversee clubhouse, pro shop, course operations, food & beverage services, and event execution.

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures that uphold service excellence and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure facilities reflect BTCC's reputation for natural beauty, tradition, and high-quality maintenance.

Staff Development & Human Resources

  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and training efforts to cultivate a well-trained, service-focused team.

  • Establish performance expectations and collaborate with managers to ensure accountability.

  • Promote positive team culture, cross-department collaboration, and professional growth.

Member & Guest Experience

  • Maintain visibility among members and guests, reflecting BTCC's long-standing commitment to warm hospitality.

  • Respond promptly and professionally to member feedback.

  • Support programs, events, and daily operations that enhance engagement and elevate the club experience.

Marketing & Communications

  • Guide marketing initiatives, brand messaging, membership communications, and digital outreach.

  • Strengthen BTCC's public presence while honoring its 100+ years of tradition and community significance.

  • Support membership attraction and retention through consistent communication and service excellence.

Event Planning & Coordination

  • Oversee tournaments, weddings, special events, and BTCC traditions—including the Birchmont and Vandersluis.

  • Ensure events are well-executed and reflect the professionalism and charm BTCC is known for.

  • Collaborate with managers to guarantee seamless delivery of all events.

Qualifications & Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Hospitality, Sports Management, or a related field preferred.

  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in golf, hospitality, or multi-department operations.

  • Strong financial background, including budgeting, reporting, and cost-control experience.

  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage multiple operational areas.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity with golf operations, F&B management, POS systems, and maintenance operations is highly valued.
