The LCHA is seeking a dedicated and experienced Maintenance Mechanic to perform semi-skilled work in the care of public housing buildings and surrounding grounds.

Job Summary: As a pivotal team member, you will perform manual work in the care of public housing buildings and surrounding grounds. You will be responsible for preserving the existing state of efficiency and repair of the premises of an apartment, office or building. The individual in this role will uphold the highest standards of safety and quality. This role works independently at the discretion of the Team Lead.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform a variety of detailed tasks involving HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, plastering, electrical, painting, glazing, or mechanical work necessary for repairs and maintenance.
  • Cut grass with hand mowers, weed eaters, gasoline powered mowers and tractors. Trim shrubbery, remove trash and perform other grounds keeping work as assigned. Remove snow and ice.
  • Clean storm drains, repair downspouts, make minor repairs and adjustments to storm doors. Remove and repair screen windows and broken windows.
  • Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, oil and clean machinery as necessary.
  • Make drywall and plastering repairs. Prepare surfaces to be painted. Paint rooms, walls or other surfaces as assigned using brushes, rollers and spray gun. Clean equipment after use.
  • Repair leaky faucets and plumbing stoppages; remove and re-caulk tile and bathtub surround.
  • Replace furnace filters, washers, gaskets, light bulbs, shades, fuses, wall plates, fixture cords, receptacles, switches and make general service repairs.
  • Clean surface areas, floors, stoves, refrigerators and other items to prepare units for re-occupancy.
  • Drive a truck. Serve on-call rotation for after-hours emergency repairs.
  • Capable of maintaining a professional and supportive atmosphere for residents and staff, and able to follow the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring:

  • Possess high school or vocational school diploma, a G.E.D. certificate, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training as necessary to meet position requirements.
  • Must have at least two years of experience in the building maintenance trades. Proficiency in one or more of these trades, as evidenced by certification, training, or significant and verifiable experience is desirable, but not required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written documents and to learn from directions and demonstrations.
  • Ability to keep simple records and make simple reports.
  • Ability to utilize computers and/or smart devices for time management and work orders.
  • Sufficient physical strength and freedom of motion to be able to operate power machinery (mowers and waxers), to perform repetitive tasks, to lift heavy objects and work under adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to tolerate weather conditions, including extended periods outdoors under emergency conditions.
  • Must possess some mechanical skills and ability as evidenced by proficiency with common hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to follow safety precautions and to report potentially hazardous conditions to the immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Self-starter and team player.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a six (6) month introductory employment period to receive permanent status.
  • Employees are also required to provide standard hand tools at date of hire and are responsible for replacing them as needed.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and be insurable under the Authority's automobile policy.
