Salary Level: $60.37 per hour
Hourly wage is based off of the greater of 65% of the State of Washington's Prevailing Wage Rates
for Pierce County for each craft's applicable prevailing wage or prior year wage x IPD plus 1%.
This position performs duties related to the installation, repair, servicing, calibration, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems and high and low voltage equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs interior and exterior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines and equipment, switches, receptacles, plugs, devices, controls, instrument panels, clock and bell circuits, hearing and fire alarm circuits, intercom systems, uninterruptible power systems, control circuits for sprinkler systems, computer systems, and security systems.
Inspects, repairs, maintains, and services distribution systems to include transmission wires, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, breaker panels, fuse boxes, switches and controls, and all other auxiliary equipment.
Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs interior and exterior lighting systems to include fixtures, switches, troubleshoot circuits, photo eyes, emergency lighting systems, ballasts, timing devices, light poles, and auditorium and theater systems with dimmer circuits.
Installs, adjusts, maintains, and repairs electric motors which may include replacing brushes, replacing worn out bearings, replacing worn out coupling, vibration devices, dressing and polishing commutators, magnetic starters, overload heaters, contractors, repairing or replacing breakers and relays, replacing defective gears, bushings, capacitors, and other electrical parts.
Inspects, repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots boiler control firing circuits, either gas or oil; installs, repairs, and modifies step controllers for boilers and other appliances, also control circuits for safety devices associated to this equipment.
Installs, adjusts, maintains, services, and repairs pumps, hot water heaters, electrical scoreboards, and other electrical athletic systems, installs and repairs computer wiring and fiber optics.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
Performs related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.
Regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the work of the position.
CONDITIONS
May be required to make emergency repairs at hours other than normally scheduled; exposure to loud noises and machinery with moving parts; exposure to high voltage electrical systems; may work outdoors in inclement weather and at heights; may work in confined areas; travel to district sites required; may be required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, climb, and/or be mobile.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience
Three years' work experience with the electrical trades, and two years related training at a technical/trade school; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Washington State Journeyman Electrician's License EL01
Valid Washington State driver's license.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
Allowable Substitution
Completion of an approved apprenticeship of four (4) years within the electrical trades may substitute for the above requirement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of electrical principles and standard practices.
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade.
Knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements such as National Electric Code, City of Tacoma, and applicable WACs and RCWs.
Knowledge of equipment utilized in checking, testing, and analyzing electrical systems.
Knowledge of boiler controls and safe practices.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, control schematics, charts, and technical instructions.
Ability to apply electrical formulas and conversion tables to job requirements.
Ability to lift 50 pounds using proper safety precautions.
Ability to work from ladders in elevated positions.
Ability to bend, squat, stoop, climb, and reach.
Ability to quickly diagnose and make repairs.
Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Ability to demonstrate reasonable, reliable, and regular attendance.
Ability to work as a team member.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.
