Job Summary

Responsible for leading the operators on their assigned shift, ensuring that the department is operated in a safe, environmentally compliant, reliable, and cost-effective manner. This includes maximizing production and creating long-term mechanical integrity of the systems and equipment. This position directs, develops, and manages the day-to-day activities to ensure the above stated goals are met.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Embraces safety and environmental stewardship as a core value of leadership.
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching, counseling employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies and procedures; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, resolving problems and reporting results on shift production summaries.
  • Creates and revises operating parameters rounds and readings and takes necessary corrective actions to meet departmental objectives, while driving operational excellence and KPI monitoring.
  • Recommends necessary changes to processes, equipment, procedures, or staffing to meet departmental objectives.
  • Maintains working relationship with the Union by following the terms of collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
  • Mobilizes quickly without acting impulsively, showing good judgement.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with other departments to obtain the required assistance in meeting departmental objectives.
Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Basic computer skills/knowledge (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  • Effective leadership/people skills.
  • Must be a positive representative of the company and its mission.
  • Experience with production procedures.
  • Must demonstrate basic reading, writing and mathematical skills.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet.
  • Works in a safe manner that promotes the EHS goals of the plant and the company.
  • Effective organizational, time management and communication skills.
  • Physical capability, availability, willingness and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good interpersonal and influential skills.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Self-motivated in advancing to the highest level possible.
  • Ability to promote development of employees.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
  • Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, high pressure, high temperature, loud noises, and running equipment.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection).

Special Attention: This position is safety and security sensitive in nature. 

This position deals with hazardous materials and/or industrial processes that can pose a risk to employees and the general public.  This facility is required to comply with security standards under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) CFATS regulation 6 CFR Part 27.
