Cashier/Sales Associate

BACKGROUND

Global Neighbors is a non-profit founded in 2015 to address the lack of welcoming and integration services for New American and low English families in central North Dakota. Since 2015, experiences within the community led us to see deeper problems of accessibility, equity, and inequality. Global Neighbors began to work with partners in the community to provide English tutoring classes, computer support, educational events, and advocacy discussions.

Moving into 2026, we want to continue that work and meaningfully serve families to make our community a better place for all. As the work grows, so does our organization.

Global Neighbors is currently seeking to hire a Cashier/Sales Associate to join our Thrift Store team. You'd be the friendly face of Second Home Thrift Store, ensuring a welcoming experience for every shopper and donor. This role is responsible for operating the cash register, processing sales, assisting customers, and supporting overall store operations. The ideal candidate will be dependable, customer-focused, and able to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

• hours per week
• Schedule (Part-time): Tuesday - Saturday 10am to 6pm. Saturdays required
• Local travel may be necessary at times.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic math and cash-handling ability
• Dependable and punctual
• Ability to work on your feet for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous cashier or customer service experience preferred, but training will be provided
• Bilingual or multilingual

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Customer Service & Sales

• Greet customers in a warm and professional manner
• Operate the cash register, process cash, credit, and voucher transactions accurately
• Answer customer questions and assist with locating merchandise
• Handle customer concerns with patience and professionalism

Store Support

• Bag and package customer purchases
• Assist with stocking, organizing, and displaying merchandise when needed
• Support donation intake by directing donors and assisting as needed
• Keep checkout area clean, organized, and welcoming

Teamwork

• Work closely with the Thrift Store Manager, staff, and volunteers to maintain smooth store operations
• Assist with special sales, promotions, or events

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

• May require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of up to 50lbs.
