Description / Position OverviewThis is a .75 position working 30 hours per week.
About the Job: The purpose of this position is to provide investigative and administrative support to the Burglary Unit. Perform various non-sworn law enforcement tasks that do not require carrying a weapon or arrest authority. Investigate crimes of all types, contact victims and witnesses, and complete appropriate documentation.
This position will be assigned to Metro Division - Burglary Unit
The work schedule, which is subject to the needs of the department, will primarily be Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

As a CCI in the Burglary Unit, you will:
- Review cases for solvability.
- Document and follow up on potential investigative leads.
- Submit evidence to be processed to the CSPD Crime Lab or CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) for DNA evidence or other evidence of probative value.
- Document and submit reports of the findings of assigned investigations in a thorough and timely manner.
- Conduct field work, including victim and witness interviews, interrogations (a sworn detective must be present during the suspect interrogation), scene processing, obtaining and executing search warrants and court orders, and other investigative tasks as needed.
- Prepare and file cases with the District Attorney's office.
- Testify in court when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of modern office technology.
- Ability to properly and safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Ability to learn & operate new computer software programs.
Work is performed primarily in the office but does have some work in the field, with potential exposure to extreme weather conditions, biohazardous materials, hostile or aggressive individuals, and criminal suspects.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study; preferably in the criminal justice field.
- Five years of full-time, professional experience in a related field; preferably in a law enforcement agency.
- Possess, or obtain upon hire, a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restrictions related to alcohol and/or drug-related violations or pending charges
- Possess, or obtain within three months of hire, NCIC/CCIC (National Crime Information Center/Colorado Crime Information Center) certification
Education and Experience Equivalence: One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience as a sworn police officer or Community Service Officer.
- Three years of investigative experience.
- Computer based investigative skills.
- College level coursework in the criminal justice field.
