Role Summary

The Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the accounting team through the full cycle of month-end closing and reporting, payroll processing, and stock-based compensation accounting. This position involves assisting with various accounting functions, including the month-end and year-end closing processes, vendor invoice processing, and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure timely resolution of outstanding items. In addition to overseeing daily cash application activities and assisting with SOX control testing, the Accountant supports the preparation of sales and use tax filings, 1099 filings, and SEC filing schedules. A proactive team member, this role focuses on identifying opportunities for process improvements in accounting procedures and systems, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all financial activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the month-end and year-end closing process in multiple areas, including fixed assets, accruals, prepaids, property tax, patents, etc.
• Process vendor invoices with accurate coding.
• Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
• Oversee daily cash application activities.
• Assist with testing of the Company's SOX controls.
• Assist with accurate and timely preparation of sales and use tax filings and 1099 filings.
• Serve as a backup for processing semi-monthly payroll and record related journal entries.
• Serve as a backup for maintaining employee stock plan records using a third-party provider platform.
• Assist with preparation of supporting schedules for SEC filings.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Assist with external audits by providing auditors with necessary documentation and explanations.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting procedures and systems and work with the team to implement changes for enhanced efficiency and accuracy.
• Other duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience in a related position with similar responsibilities.
• Proficiency in NetSuite is required.
• Preferred experience with Payroll processing, Sales and Use Tax reporting.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, including the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Effective time management, written, and verbal communication skills.
