Job Summary
Responsible for overseeing the day to day lab operations (calibration, troubleshooting, reporting, Statutory Requirements, Customer Issues, etc.) and manages and directs a team of 3-5 direct reports. Manages the site ISO 9001:2015 registration as it pertains to Anhydrous Ammonia Production.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Oversee lab operations and handle day-to-day issues interfacing with management when required. Management and personnel development for a team of 3-5 direct reports.
- Schedule and facilitate the laboratory workload.
- Coordinate instrument calibration and maintenance procedures.
- Train and certify new production and lab technicians.
- Respond to requests for information and data from sales, tech service, R&D, production, and customers.
- Troubleshoot problems and recommend solutions to problems incurred with test methods, products, and instrument calibration.
- Maintain inventories of all applicable lab supplies ordering supplies as needed.
- Prepare test methods and write SOP's.
- Complete non-routine special projects as directed.
- Lead or coordinate special projects and continuous improvement efforts.
- Analyze raw materials, in process, finished product and product shipments by following test procedures and using lab instruments.
- Perform Wastewater analysis.
- Perform instrument calibrations, maintenance and keep accurate records.
- Maintain standardization of reagents and equipment used in laboratory and by Operators.
- Follow lab and plant policies and procedures (safety, housekeeping, deviations, etc).
- Work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
- Oversee catalyst production from a proprietary formula.
- Exchange information and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Laboratory setting.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemistry or related field, required.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with lab equipment such as GC, ICP, AA.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Highly organized, with focus on process and time management discipline.
- Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines are required.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required.
- Excellent computer skills and attention to detail a must.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
- Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, high pressure, high temperature, loud noises, and running equipment.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection).
