Job Summary

Responsible for overseeing the day to day lab operations (calibration, troubleshooting, reporting, Statutory Requirements, Customer Issues, etc.) and manages and directs a team of 3-5 direct reports. Manages the site ISO 9001:2015 registration as it pertains to Anhydrous Ammonia Production.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Oversee lab operations and handle day-to-day issues interfacing with management when required. Management and personnel development for a team of 3-5 direct reports.
• Schedule and facilitate the laboratory workload.
• Coordinate instrument calibration and maintenance procedures.
• Train and certify new production and lab technicians.
• Respond to requests for information and data from sales, tech service, R&D, production, and customers.
• Troubleshoot problems and recommend solutions to problems incurred with test methods, products, and instrument calibration.
• Maintain inventories of all applicable lab supplies ordering supplies as needed.
• Prepare test methods and write SOP's.
• Complete non-routine special projects as directed.
• Lead or coordinate special projects and continuous improvement efforts.
• Analyze raw materials, in process, finished product and product shipments by following test procedures and using lab instruments.
• Perform Wastewater analysis.
• Perform instrument calibrations, maintenance and keep accurate records.
• Maintain standardization of reagents and equipment used in laboratory and by Operators.
• Follow lab and plant policies and procedures (safety, housekeeping, deviations, etc).
• Work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
• Oversee catalyst production from a proprietary formula.
• Exchange information and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Laboratory setting.
• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemistry or related field, required.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Laboratory setting.
• Familiarity with lab equipment such as GC, ICP, AA.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Highly organized, with focus on process and time management discipline.
• Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines are required.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required.
• Excellent computer skills and attention to detail a must.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
• Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, high pressure, high temperature, loud noises, and running equipment.
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection).
