The ideal candidate will be patient, nurturing, and committed to delivering high-quality support for the child and family.
Duties
- Provide hands-on personal care for a child with cerebral palsy, including assistance with daily routines such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Assist with G-tube feeding routines under the direction of the parent or supervising nurse (e.g., preparing supplies, positioning the child, monitoring comfort), but do not perform the medical procedure directly.
- Support mobility and safe transfers, including the use of wheelchairs, gait belts, adaptive devices, and Hoyer lifts.
- Observe and report any changes in the child's condition to the supervising nurse or family.
- Keep accurate notes of care provided during each shift using designated systems (Wellsky or paper notes if applicable).
- Support therapeutic routines such as range of motion exercises, speech practice, or play-based developmental activities.
- Communicate respectfully and clearly with family members and other care team professionals.
- Follow HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines to protect the child's privacy.
- Perform light household tasks directly related to the child's care.
- Provide companionship, encouragement, and emotional support to the child.
Experience
Candidates should have prior experience in pediatric caregiving, particularly supporting children with cerebral palsy, developmental disabilities, autism, or other special needs. Additional background in home health, assisted living, or long-term care is also valuable. Familiarity with assistive devices such as wheelchairs, gait belts, and Hoyer lifts is highly desirable, along with experience assisting families in daily routines and therapeutic activities. Certification in CPR and First Aid is advantageous, and candidates with training in child development or social work are encouraged to apply.
