Position Summary
Presbyterian Ear Institute Oral School has the opportunity for a qualified Support Teacher to join our teaching team The support teacher supports all of our classrooms by assisting the lead classroom teachers with delivering age‐ appropriate lessons, providing direct supervision and active engagement of our students in language-rich learning activities within a fun-filled, supportive environment, breakfast/lunch, nap, and recess duty, etc. Our students are a mix of children with hearing loss, speech delays, and typically developing peer models. Please note, all of our students speak, we do not use sign language at our school.

This is a Monday through Friday position, full time, you will need to be available to work 40 hours a week, between 7:30 and 5:00pm. Your daily shift will be determined after hire.

  • Essential Functions

Assisting lead teachers with preparation and/or delivery of instructional material; music and games, art, reading, math activities, etc.

  • Assist lead teacher with tracking student progress
  • Assisting in one-on-one and small group activities;
  • Assisting in caring for student needs: May include such duties as feeding, cleaning, toileting, clothing changes, and assisting with other daily living activities;
  • Assisting in management of students who may be disruptive or combative;
  • Assisting with supervision of students on the playground, cafeteria, restrooms, etc.
  • Participating in staff meetings, in-service training, and other school activities
  • Performing clerical duties for teachers;
  • Performing substitute duties as assigned;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree in early childhood education, deaf education, special education, or related degree, preferred
  • New grads are encouraged to apply
  • Teaching or EA license or alternative licensure, preferred
  • Experience teaching can be substituted for a degree, however, you must be willing to enroll in college courses towards earning a degree.
  • Excellent communication and instructional skills
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.

PEIOS Overview
Presbyterian Ear Institute School for Oral Deaf Education is the only Listening and Spoken Language School in New Mexico for deaf and hard‐of‐hearing children. We do not use sign language at PEI. Here, we teach deaf/hard‐of‐hearing children to listen, learn and speak through the use of innovative teaching plans for children with any type of hearing loss, who use hearing aids and/or cochlear implants, or who have speech delays. We focus on developing listening and spoken language skills in a fun and engaging learning environment. Students receive individualized and small group instruction, where they engage in typical preschool activities including circle time, art activities, center‐based play, and phonemic awareness skill development.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30, $40,000.00 per year
