Position Highlights
Corporate Development and Partnerships is a new key business unit that represents a strategic shift in how we proactively
meet the needs of our customers now and into the future. This team will explore unique growth opportunities that allow us to
scale our business, support new generation initiatives, and achieve our strategic objectives faster.
Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Customer & Corporate Affairs, as the Director, Corporate Development and
Partnerships, you will lead this dynamic group and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organization. You will
oversee strategic transactions and partnerships along with First Nations commercial negotiations, identifying and executing
opportunities that align with BC Hydro's mandate, regulatory obligations, sustainability and long-term goals in enabling
economic and community growth.
What you'll do
- Identify, evaluate, and execute deals that strengthen our market position, enable business growth, address operational
bottlenecks, and foster innovation.
- Collaborate across BC Hydro teams, including Indigenous Relations, Integrated Planning, Finance, Operations and
Regulatory to ensure alignment.
- Monitor and analyze utility sector trends, regulatory developments, market dynamics and emerging technologies to inform
strategy and deal sourcing.
- Develop and maintain a strategic growth pipeline, including target lists and opportunity prioritization aligned with the
company's strategy and capital allocation framework.
Identify suitable structures and terms, then negotiate strategic alliances, joint ventures, M&A and commercial agreements.
Lead and oversee cross-functional due diligence processes.
Guide the development of robust business cases and financial models to evaluate opportunities.
Manage integration plans to ensure smooth operational, cultural and system transitions.
Advance the commercial aspects of new generation opportunities identified by Integrated Planning teams.
Build and maintain relationships with regulators, government agencies, Indigenous communities, and industry partners.
Ensure all initiatives comply with BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) and federal regulations.
Represent BC Hydro in regulatory hearings, industry forums, and stakeholder consultations.
Present and facilitate discussions internally and externally, including regularly communicating with executives and other
senior leaders, and the board.
Support sustainability reporting and ensure alignment with corporate environmental goals.
Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
Provide direction, training and mentoring to analytical and execution staff.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience, including 10+ years in senior leadership roles within energy, utilities, or regulated
industries. Corporate development, investment banking or private equity experience also valuable.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Strong understanding of commercial transactions and partnership models.
- Demonstrated success in structuring and closing complex commercial agreements.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and navigating complex negotiations.
- Knowledge of regulatory processes and government relations in British Columbia.
- Strong financial acumen and ability to evaluate investment opportunities.
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and reporting standards.
- Ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
