Field Systems Support Technician

Job Summary
The Field Service Technician is responsible for installing, monitoring, and troubleshooting collections technological systems throughout various divisions in Ontario. This position demands strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. The technician works closely with maintenance staff, Collections Managers, Supervisors, and customer service representatives. Flexibility with changing schedules is important to accommodate urgent repairs when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Install and repair CCTV, alarm, RFID systems, and other truck technologies as required.
- Interpret schematics and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Analyze and resolve technical problems.
- Maintain responsibility for equipment and vehicles.
- Order, track, and manage equipment inventory as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with management and colleagues.
- Set up and repair telecommunications equipment and products.
- Remotely monitor deployed units in operation.
- Respond to system alarms and perform initial system actions.
- Diagnose system issues, assist other technicians with troubleshooting, and address remote problems.
- Work on electrical, mechanical, and chemical subsystems within power generation.
- Repair and maintain truck scales and camera systems.
- Keep logs of events and escalate complex problems to supervisors or relevant teams.
- Communicate with maintenance crews about truck repairs, equipment, and provide updates on route progress.
- Manage scheduling for truck repairs, coordinate arrangements for drivers, and work with external vendors.
- Update routes daily to reflect changes in customers or service requirements.
- Support operations by participating in root cause analysis and planning solutions for material-related issues.
Qualifications:
- 1–3 years of experience as a technician with expertise in electrical and/or computer system troubleshooting.
- Prior experience in remote monitoring and troubleshooting preferred.
- Technical background or previous work as an electrician or installation technician preferred.
- Strong technical writing ability.
- Motivated to work independently under pressure.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Able to multitask and adjust priorities quickly.
- Experience with data entry and report generation.
- Customer service skills and professionalism are essential.
- Advanced computer proficiency.
- Dispatch experience considered an asset.
- Experience in the waste management or transportation industry is an advantage.
Salary – $52,000
