Position:
Senior Embedded Flight Software Engineer
Sector:
Advanced Space Systems
Based in:
Colorado, USA
Compensation:
From $160,000 + equity
An innovative space venture is developing next-generation spacecraft technologies that will expand the boundaries of in-space exploration and resource utilization. With an ambitious mission schedule ahead, the team is scaling quickly and seeking exceptional engineers to help deliver one of the most challenging technical programs in the industry.
We are now looking for a
Senior Embedded Flight Software Engineer
to become a cornerstone of the avionics and software effort. This opportunity offers direct ownership, hands-on development, and the chance to make meaningful contributions to spacecraft that will fly in the near future.
Role Overview
This engineer will be responsible for architecting, coding, and validating embedded flight software that controls critical spacecraft functions. Work spans from low-level driver development to integrating real-time operating systems, implementing high-reliability communication links, and running tests against real hardware. The position combines technical depth with broad collaboration across subsystems, bridging the gap between concept and on-orbit reality.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and verify embedded software in
C/C++
for microcontrollers and flight processors. - Build drivers, RTOS modules, and bare-metal implementations tailored to mission needs.
- Establish and test data links using protocols such as
SpaceWire, I2C, SPI, RS-422/485/232, CAN Bus, IP, MIPI, GMSL, and CCSDS SPP
. - Apply frameworks like
cFS
or
Embedded Linux
to spacecraft operations. - Collaborate with hardware, avionics, and guidance teams to ensure seamless integration.
- Perform real-time hardware/software debugging using
JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and automated test scripts
. - Participate in reviews, simulation campaigns, and system-level validation activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to technical strategy.
Desired Background
- Degree in
Computer, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related technical field
(BS required, MS preferred). - Strong record of hands-on work with
C/C++ in embedded, real-time environments
. - Familiarity with
RTOS kernels, bare-metal programming, and low-level driver development
. - Working knowledge of
industry-standard communication buses and protocols
(SpaceWire, I2C, SPI, RS-422/485/232, CAN, IP, MIPI, GMSL, CCSDS SPP). - Experience bringing up embedded software on
real hardware in laboratory test environments
. - Skilled in using
hardware/software debug equipment
(JTAG probes, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.). - Exposure to spacecraft software stacks or embedded Linux is a plus.
- Thrives in
fast-paced, small-team settings
with high levels of responsibility and collaboration. - Background in the space sector is beneficial but not mandatory; capability and depth of experience outweigh years of service.
Eligibility:
Only open to
US Persons (US Citizens or Green Card holders).
