Overview

We are seeking a skilled Welder to join our dynamic team The ideal candidate be proficient in various welding techniques for both steel and aluminum welding processes and have a strong understanding of fabrication processes. This role involves fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures and components of vessels according to build specifications. The Welder will work closely with other team members and departments to ensure high-quality production standards while adhering to safety protocols, rules, policies, and procedures.

Victoria Marine is a 3rd generation family-owned company with over 45 years of shipbuilding experience. We specialize in new construction, refits, and repair of steel and aluminum vessels as well as custom metal fabrication services. Our operations allow for the construction of vessels ranging from 15' to 150' in length for both private and public entities. The types of vessels constructed include barges, catamarans, center consoles, crew vessels, cruise line tenders, dinner boats, ferries, fishing trawlers, gambling vessels, jack up barges, ocean going tugboats, paddle wheelers, passenger vessels, research vessels, SWATH vessels, theme park vessels, work platforms, yachts, and more

Position Requirements and Essential Functions

  • Proven experience as a Welder within a shipyard environment, manufacturing or other heavy industrial construction environment.
  • Experience using hand tools effectively in a production setting.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a shipyard environment (heavy industrial).
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to following and adhering to all safety standards and protocols without deviation.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and include, but are not limited to:

  • Working on elevated scaffolding to heights of approximately 50 feet.
  • Climbing stairways to vessels up to approximately 50 feet up and working aboard vessels at this height.
  • Working on ladders of varying heights.
  • Carrying equipment and tools of varying weights up to approximately 70 lbs.
  • Welding various metal components and structural systems.
  • Use of various tools and equipment, including welding machines, cutting torches, drills, drill presses and grinders, etc.
  • Working in tight spaces with kneeling, bending, squatting, stooping, crawling, and reaching overhead while utilizing tools.
  • Working in areas that include, but are not limited to:
  • Aboard non-climatized metal vessels in small or tight spaces
  • Inside non-climatized buildings and facilities
  • Outside areas open to environmental elements in the Florida climate which can include high and low temperatures, wind, and rain

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are not exhaustive and if hired, the employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Perform MIG, TIG, and FCAW welding on various materials including sheet metal and pipe.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment while following safety rules, policies, and procedures.

What will set you apart from other candidates

  • The ability to weld both steel and aluminum.
  • Shipfitting experience.
  • Welding certification(s).
  • Proficiently read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine project specifications.
  • Experience in the shipbuilding industry.
  • Safety certification(s).
  • Previous experience in lead, supervisory or management capacities.
  • Other skills related to the construction of steel and aluminum vessels.
  • The ability to travel approximately days out of the year or as needed.
  • An eager willingness to broaden your skillset through education and experience with the company.
