About the role
Myticas Consulting is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the engineering and design team for a specialized industrial equipment manufacturer serving the oil & gas sector in the Denver/Louisville, Colorado area. In this direct-hire role, you will own project design, engineering, drafting, procurement support, and product lifecycle management for large-scale, manufactured fluid-handling systems and oil & gas surface equipment.
You will guide a team of engineers and designers working with pumps, piping, valves, instrumentation, and structural systems, ensuring designs are safe, manufacturable, reliable, and cost-effective. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you'll influence everything from client proposals and system layouts to manufacturing drawings and coordination with the production floor.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team in selecting and sizing equipment for fluid handling systems, including pumps, piping, valves, and instrumentation
- Direct the team to create 3D SolidWorks layouts, P&IDs, structural drawings, mechanical assembly drawings, and other documentation to support production
- Coordinate closely with the manufacturing shop on all fabricated, pre-assembled, and manufactured system designs
- Serve as the technical authority to guide designs for safety, manufacturability, reliability, and budget adherence
- Act as an independent project manager for key accounts as required, including proposal review and client communication
- Select and specify engineered equipment to be used in product designs and prefabricated/ unitized systems
- Review mechanical and electrical manufacturing work for accuracy, compliance with design intent, and functional performance
- Serve as the liaison between the engineering/design team and the production team, including coordinating material take-offs for fabrication and installation
- Apply relevant industry standards (ASME, ANSI, NEC, NFPA, ASTM and customer specifications) to guide and validate designs
Requirements
- Must be able to work on-site in the Denver/Louisville, Colorado, US area
- Minimum 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including design and leadership responsibilities on industrial equipment projects
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical engineering, math, or science discipline
- At least 5 years of experience with oil & gas surface equipment and mechanical systems, including pumps, piping, valves, and instrumentation
- At least 5 years of experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D and 2D design and drafting of industrial equipment
- Proven experience developing and reviewing manufacturing drawings and selecting/specifying engineered equipment for large-scale industrial or oil & gas systems
Preferred Skills
- Experience acting as an independent project manager on engineering projects
- EIT or PE registration in Mechanical Engineering
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude gained through shop, field, commissioning, or maintenance work
- Experience leading, developing, and mentoring engineering teams within the oil & gas or process industries
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong documentation and reporting skills
- Familiarity with applying ASME, ANSI, NEC, NFPA, ASTM, and customer specifications in design work
- Strong communication skills for managing customer and vendor relationships and driving cross-functional collaboration
