Position Description & Details

This is a limited part-time/PRN position located within the Student Health Clinic and Counseling Center at Minot State University.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate all students in a holistic manner, including the physiological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual aspects utilizing clinical experience
  • Document in the students' chart each visit to the Student Health Clinic as appropriate
  • Provide care within the scope of practice for a nurse practitioner licensed in North Dakota
  • Augment the care provided by students' primary care physician for chronic health problems, for example: hypertension, diabetes, and asthma.
  • Provide emergency medical treatment to the level of legal training and ability; refer to specialty or emergency care as appropriate
  • Work in conjunction with the State Health Department to prevent transmission of viruses, STI's and other communicable diseases; report communicable diseases as appropriate
  • Review immunizations prior to student visits, recommend appropriate immunizations as necessary
  • Manage medical, mental health, and gynecological concerns, which include:
  • Assessment and diagnosis, providing patient health education, ordering laboratory tests, x-rays, and prescribing medications
  • Keep timely and meticulous health records
  • Provide physicals' for sports, study abroad and academic-related activities
  • Evaluate MMR/TB status regarding administrative health requirement
  • Work with University Counseling related to referring and receiving referrals
  • Provide health screening and education and assist in the development and implementation of preventive healthcare
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge and competency in diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients
  • Demonstrate expertise in technical skills and exhibits sound clinical judgment. Maintain and manage patients utilizing lab, x-ray and other diagnostic testing in an appropriate, cost-effective manner. Perform lab collection to complete patient lab orders
  • Independently prescribe and/or administer appropriate medication, corrective measures, and medical therapeutics. Coordinate with outside providers to assure for continuity of care.
  • Maintain clinical documentations on all patient encounters completely and in a timely manner including documentation of phone calls, prescriptions and results reporting. Preserve and protect patients' rights of confidentiality.
  • Prioritize tasks and meet clinical objectives. Organize and handle scheduled caseload in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Nurse Practitioner degree from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Active Nurse Practitioner license to practice in the State of North Dakota
  • Current Board Certification as FNP
  • Two years of post-graduate primary care and/or urgent care experience
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community

Working Environment:

  • Typical medical office environment
  • Ability to be a professional resource for office staff (front desk, nursing, and counseling staff)
  • Ability to provide both in person and telehealth medical care
  • Ability to work with technology, including EMR and emails
