The Internal Auditor Supervisor will lead and oversee internal audit engagements, ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of financial, operational, and compliance controls within Public Safety. This role involves supervising a team of auditors and internal audit staff, while providing strategic recommendations to enhance organizational efficiency and mitigate risks, and ensuring that engagement work is complete, accurate, and adheres to internal auditing standards.
The incumbent plans, leads, and executes internal audit engagements covering operational compliance, financial, information systems, and investigative areas. Independent judgment is exercised in analyzing and interpreting internal auditing standards, laws, policies, and other relevant information to ensure work accuracy and compliance with standards. The position ensures that audit objectives are met efficiently and address pertinent agency risks while monitoring engagement time and budgets, adjusting audit procedures as necessary in consultation with the Audit Manager and Audit Director.
Additionally, the Internal Audit Supervisor conducts formal reviews and analyses of the Department of Public Safety operations and internal controls and may assist with the annual audit plan. Operating independently with general guidance from the Audit Manager and Audit Director, this position adheres to the Internal Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Specific job responsibilities include:
Supervising, training, and mentoring a team of internal auditors, providing guidance and constructive feedback on audit procedures and findings
Planning, executing, and completing complex financial, operational, and compliance audits in accordance with professional auditing standards and Public Safety policies
Developing comprehensive audit programs and work papers, ensuring thorough documentation of audit scope, methodology, and conclusions
Evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, identifying weaknesses and recommending practical solutions to improve processes and reduce risk
Preparing clear, concise, and objective audit reports that communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to management and relevant stakeholders
Presenting audit findings to departmental leaders and senior management, facilitating discussions and gaining consensus on corrective actions
Following up on the implementation of audit recommendations to ensure timely and effective remediation of identified issues
Assisting in the development and maintenance of the annual audit plan based on risk assessments and organizational objectives
Staying abreast of changes in auditing standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ethical conduct within the internal audit function
The ideal candidate will have strong internal auditing, public accounting, or financial oversight experience with demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), COSO framework, and risk management principles. The employee in this position is expected to possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify key issues; excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex information to diverse audiences; proficiency in audit management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); the ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously; a high level of integrity, objectivity, and professional skepticism; and experience working within a public sector or government organization is a plus.

Salary: $ 73, $ 142,538.00 Annually
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits , including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance. This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of the State Telework Program. The work schedule is 7:30am -6:00pm (4 days a week/10 hours per day). The hybrid schedule is remote on Tuesday and Thursday and in the office on Monday and Wednesday.

The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management Preferences, including Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants.
