This position performs manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of buildings, grounds, and other assignments as needed in department operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists Plumber in the maintenance and repair of the City's plumbing fixtures, sprinkler systems, water fountains, and swimming pool equipment. - Assists HVAC Technician in the maintenance and repair of the City's heating and air conditioning systems including HVAC units, boilers, chillers, air compressors, electrical and pneumatic controls, and hot water heaters. - Assist the Facilities Maintenance Specialist in the maintenance and repair of the City's buildings including painting, general carpentry, flooring, renovations, moving furniture, drywall, and roof repair. - Assist Signs Specialist in fixing and making signs. - Assist in the construction of new cabinets, bookshelves, desks, fences, steps, and small buildings. - Assists with snow removal operations. - Maintains equipment in clean and operating manner. - Reports to work for on-call after-hours needs, as assigned. - Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority. - Knowledge of City policies, procedures, and practices. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. - Ability to work under direct supervision; take responsibility for quality and timeliness of work; respond to unplanned requests; complete assigned tasks and report progress; demonstrate behavior consistent with Department direction. - Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with the public. - Ability to take control of situations in a responsible manner. - Ability to work as a member of a team. - Ability to lead other team members. - Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays due to adverse weather conditions, construction projects, or other emergency service.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma/equivalent. - Previous experience in HVAC, Signs and Markings, Plumbing, or Facilities Maintenance preferred. - Possession of a valid State of Tennessee Driver's License. This position closes at 12:00 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2026.
