About SECORE
SECORE International, Inc. is a global nonprofit dedicated to rethinking how coral reefs can be restored at scale. We partner with researchers, governments, NGOs, and local communities to design, test, and deploy innovative technologies for reef recovery. Our mission is bold: deliver real-world solutions that give coral reefs a fighting chance.
Why This Role?
Coral reefs need ideas that work in the water and in the real world. We're looking for a creative leader who can guide coral restoration technologies from concept to final product, while building the department and partnerships that make scaling possible.
This role is ideal for someone with product development, strategic planning, personnel management expertise, and a passion for marine conservation — someone excited to learn about coral biology and restoration while applying their skills to one of the planet's biggest challenges. As Coral Restoration Technology Director, you'll oversee SECORE's technology department — designing and refining innovative tools, mentoring a diverse team, and working as part of SECORE's leadership to grow the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Existing Product Management: Guide global supply chain management and production of existing SECORE technologies.
- Lead innovation: Drive the strategic direction, develop priorities, and set bold goals for SECORE's Technology Department.
- Prototype and scale: Oversee design, testing, refinement, and troubleshooting of restoration technologies, ensuring affordability and usability in diverse settings at a global scale.
- Build partnerships: Develop vendor and manufacturer relationships, negotiate contracts, manage external collaborations, and expand SECORE's global production network.
- Grow and guide the team: Supervise and mentor engineers and technical staff within the Technology Department, fostering collaboration across cultures and disciplines.
- Integrate science + tech + implementation: Partner with SECORE's science teams and implementation partner network to align designs with biological needs and feedback from field tests.
- Champion and fund the work: Represent SECORE externally at conferences, partner meetings, and industry gatherings, and support efforts to increase funding for technology development in collaboration with the SECORE leadership team.
- Strategic contribution: Provide input to organizational planning, ensuring technology roadmaps advance SECORE's strategic objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in product design, engineering, applied environmental science, project management, or related technical field.
- 10+ years of experience in product development, engineering design, or applied R&D, with a record of moving ideas from concepts to delivery at scale.
- Demonstrated success negotiating with vendors/manufacturers and managing fabrication or production workflows.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex timelines and budgets.
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with experience supervising and mentoring teams, and working across cultures and time zones.
- Excellent communication skills in English, including technical documentation and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly, including internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Passion for marine conservation and willingness to learn about coral biology and restoration.
- Experience in environmental restoration, aquaculture, or applied fieldwork.
- Knowledge of sourcing materials and scaling fabrication processes.
- Experience in fundraising or representing technical work to non-technical audiences.
- Spanish proficiency and/or experience in multicultural, bilingual work environments.
Skills & Attributes
- Creative, solutions-oriented thinker with a hands-on approach.
- Strong collaborator who thrives in interdisciplinary, multicultural settings.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to connect vision to execution.
- Deeply motivated by SECORE's mission to advance global coral reef recovery.
