Financial Controller

Our client, a luxury sleepwear brand is looking to hire a Controller for their New York City office.

Position Summary:

The
Controller
will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, driving process improvements, managing internal controls, and delivering timely and accurate financial reporting. This is a high-impact leadership role that will work cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Supply Chain to support both B2B wholesale and DTC e-commerce growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Reporting

• Lead all aspects of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Own the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Coordinate annual audits and serve as primary liaison with external auditors

Financial Operations

• Oversee AP/AR, payroll, tax compliance, and treasury functions
• Manage inventory and cost accounting across multiple channels and systems (e.g., Shopify, NetSuite, etc.)
• Reconcile B2B and B2C revenue from multiple platforms and ensure accurate COGS allocation
• Partner with Operations to ensure seamless integration between ERP, 3PL, and e-commerce platforms

Strategic Finance Support

• Provide timely and actionable insights on margins, cash flow, and working capital
• Support FP&A in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
• Drive efficiencies in reporting and automation as the business scales

Team Leadership

• Manage and mentor a small team, with plans to scale
• Partner with HR to ensure compliance with payroll, benefits, and equity compensation
• Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement

Qualifications:

• CPA required; Big 4 or top-tier public accounting experience strongly preferred
• 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally in a high-growth consumer or e-commerce business
• Deep understanding of inventory, cost accounting, and revenue recognition for omni-channel retail
• Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred), Shopify, and marketplace integrations (e.g., NuORDER, JOOR)
• Strong Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with BI tools (Looker, Snowflake, etc.) or similar tools a plus
• Proven ability to lead teams, streamline processes, and implement systems
