Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient care, medical administrative support, and experience in various medical settings. The Medical Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our research site while providing exceptional service to our patients.
Duties
- Perform phlebotomy and blood draws for biospecimen collections, ensuring accurate labeling, processing, and storage in compliance with protocols.
- Assist in patient screening, enrollment, and follow-up for clinical trials, including taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and preparing patients for examinations or procedures.
- Periodically support primary care clinic operations, such as conducting patient intake, administering injections or vaccinations, assisting with routine check-ups, and preparing exam rooms.
- Conduct administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, data entry into electronic medical records (EMR) systems, and maintaining study or clinic documentation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, including translating information in Spanish as needed, to explain procedures, obtain consent, and address questions in both research and primary care settings.
- Support research coordinators in trial activities, such as collecting and organizing data, preparing study materials, and ensuring regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA and Good Clinical Practice guidelines).
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, including sterilizing equipment and managing inventory of supplies for both research and primary care needs.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and external partners to facilitate smooth operations across the integrated site and partnered locations.
Preferred Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred (e.g., Certified Medical Assistant - CMA certification is a plus).
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) in California, approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
- Fluency in Spanish and English (bilingual skills are essential for patient interactions in our diverse community).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment to meet deadlines and targets
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients and healthcare professionals
