ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM) is a non-profit organization that mobilizes communities of color to build grassroots power and organize collectively for abolition and liberation for Black, Indigenous, and people of color. We have historically organized at the intersection of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation by centering youth, femme, queer, and Southeast Asian leadership in our campaigns, our organization, and our communities. Our work empowers the leadership youth of color and Southeast Asian refugees in undoing the school to prison to deportation pipeline. POSITION OVERVIEW

Supervised by the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) has overall strategic, operational, and financial responsibility for PrYSM's staff, programs, campaigns, and execution of its mission. The ED will build and maintain deep knowledge and relationships of our communities and organizing movements, execute core programs, maintain daily operations, and oversee financial development of the organization. The ED is a values-aligned community member moving with radical liberation politics both inside and outside of their work at PrYSM. They have a demonstrated commitment to abolitionist practices and to ending cycles of violence in our communities. Above all, the executive director should be highly effective in a leadership role that requires clear communication skills and decisiveness.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Finances & Fundraising

  • Responsible for the ongoing financial health and compliance of PrYSM, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Takes the lead on all diverse revenue generating efforts through foundations, individual donations, earned income, and other sources.
  • Cultivate, maintain, and enhance relationships with funders, major donors, and philanthropic partners; build new funding opportunities that align with the organization's mission and communicate effectively to act as a compelling spokesperson and collaborator with funders and partners.

Board Governance:

  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to ensure that organizational mission, goals, and governance needs are met.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Support board member recruitment, training, and orientation; help board members fulfill their responsibilities and goals effectively.

Organization Mission and Strategy

  • Works with youth, staff, board, and larger membership to develop, communicate, and implement long-term vision that fulfills PrYSM's mission under our values.
  • Oversee program and campaign planning and execution, ensuring internal systems & processes support PrYSM's short and long term strategic goals
  • Establish and maintain relationships with partnering organizations in networks and joint campaigns, develop strong ties to community leaders, politicians, and stake-holders to enhance PrYSM's work.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.

Operations and Supervision

  • Ensures PrYSM's administration is functioning well and adequately resourced.
  • Proactively create and refine working conditions, benefits, and a team culture that fosters care, appreciation, and staff well-being. Cultivate an environment that values excellence, equity, and respect and maintain a healthy workplace culture.
  • Manage staff across various functions—administrative, operations, organizing, and advocacy—to ensure unity in strategy and execution and ensure strong program and campaign development and implementation
  • Oversee the recruitment, supervision, and retainment of staff.

EXPECTATION

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and experience with data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with a demonstrated ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • A strategist who can work with members, staff, and allies to strengthen short and long term planning for the organization, including but not limited to improving programs, developing leadership tracks, cultivating successful campaigns, and developing the organization
  • A people-person who can foster new relationships and build a coalition of stake-holders and allies, as well as connect well to the youth and members of the organization.
  • Ability to adapt and step in to fill roles and/or take lead on projects/events/campaign work when needed
  • Demonstrated experience with community organizing, advocacy, and direct-action; and/or youth development and youth organizing

Pay: $80,000.00 per year
