Position Description
The Meat Slicer & Receiver plays a pivotal role in the everyday operations of the restaurant. We slice our meats fresh daily and receive product shipments every second day. Focused on inventory control and the clean, safe slicing and preparation of our deli style meats; this role contributes to our team delivering successful results through Heartfelt Guest Service, people, and operations. The Meat Slicer & Receiver works under the direction of the General Manager, or Shift Leaders.
We are seeking dedicated and experienced candidate to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will support the team in overseeing daily meat slicing and inventory control measures while maintaining high standards of food safety and quality. The ideal candidate should have a background in the food industry, with a desire to be part of a positive and dedicated team environment.
Responsibilities
Slicing
Slicing meat is a major responsibility at Firehouse Subs. Meats are a highly volatile product that must be handled properly. You are to follow the proper procedures to ensure our guests have a safe, high-quality meal.
Slicing requires planning, focus and a determination to get the job completed on a timely basis. Care must be taken to slice each product property, so the yield meets our goals, and the guest receives a consistent, quality product.
Receiving
Ensure food items meet temperature standards
Check the quality of the food and non-food items
Appearance: Reject food that is moldy or has an abnormal color
Odor: Reject food with an abnormal or unpleasant odor
Inspect and reject items if packaging has any of the problems such as:
Time temperature abuse
Tears, holes, or punctures in packaging
Broken cartons or seals
Dirty and discolored packaging
Leaks, dampness, or water stains
Signs of pests or pest damage
Signs of tampering
Missing or incorrect labels
Expired use-by/expiration dates
If products do not meet quality or food safety standards, follow reporting procedures.
Skills
- Experience in food preparation, and food handling within a restaurant setting.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in the food industry (Food Handlers Certificate is an asset)
- Basic math skills for measuring, counting, and verifying quantities accurately Previous restaurant or kitchen experience is a plus.
- Maintain food safety standards and ensure compliance with health regulations.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in stocking and order fulfillment.
- Function in a positive work environment through getting along with your teammates.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $17.60-$18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 36 per week
