Black Gold Farms has an opportunity available at its Winamac, IN location for a Maintenance Technician. This position will maintain and conduct repairs on all plant equipment, monitor the daily operation of the potato wash line and grading tables, all while ensuring we deliver a product to our customer that is timely, ensures their satisfaction and is of high quality. All work must be completed in a safe, professional, and timely manner. This individual must be able to balance performing their work as efficiently as possible, while maintaining a sense of urgency and thoroughness. Extended hours and weekends will be required during peak planting and harvest seasons. Previous experience working on agriculture related equipment is a bonus
Responsibilities:
· Trouble shoot and fix all mechanical and electrical issues in the wash plant during a breakdown.
· Assure work preparations are completed in advance to operate efficiently and reduce load out time.
· Adjust sorting equipment as needed to ensure maximum efficiency and proper function.
· Operate production equipment to maximize wash-line efficiency and minimize downtime to meet shipping must-depart times.
· Must have strong understanding and aptitude in mechanics, welding, wiring motors, and able to lift 50+ lbs.
· Operate forklifts, skid steers, and other basic farm equipment.
· Be able to lead the operation of the wash line.
· Some employee supervision is required, such as monitoring efficiency, ensuring equipment is ready, and maintaining a safe work environment.
· Coach potato graders on elimination of foreign material as well as proper potato quality.
· Work with Quality Control to ensure customer quality expectations are met.
· Maintain and improve Tour Ready initiatives as it pertains to the shipping operations.
· Assist with other on-farm activities as directed by the Shipping Supervisor and or Farm Manager.
· Inventory, organize, and catalog parts as necessary.
· Maintaining accurate record keeping on equipment maintenance needs and common points of failure to mitigate downtime
· Cleaning up tools and work areas after each project, keeping indoor and outdoor workstations clean and clear from obstructions
· Performing related tasks as assigned
Required Experience:
· Preventative maintenance
· Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
· Basic math, reading, and communication skills
· Inventory control
· High School Diploma or GED
· Valid drivers license
· Welding certification
· Electrical knowledge/experience
· Inventory tracking, maintenance scheduling experience
Job Type: Full-time, year-round, in person
Pay Rate: $50,000-$54,000/annually; depending on experience
