What They Are Looking For
Our client is seeking an experienced Functional Skills Maths Tutor passionate about supporting
learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The role requires understanding the difference between mainstream teaching and working with high-needs learners. Our client delivers tailored education for young people with complex needs such as global developmental delay, Down syndrome, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, severe learning difficulties, and social communication challenges. Learners often require additional support with communication and emotional regulation.
They are looking for a Functional Skills Maths Tutor to deliver Entry Level 1–3 and Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills Maths in small groups (up to 12 learners). This role requires patience, adaptability, and confidence in managing learners with diverse needs.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver differentiated Functional Skills Maths lessons (Entry Level 1–3, Level 1–2).
- Create engaging, practical lesson plans and group activities.
- Assess and track learner progress, using diagnostic tests and assessments.
- Support learners with high needs including ADHD, Autism, and other learning differences.
- Maintain accurate records and provide feedback.
- Prepare learners for exams and practical application of maths skills.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to uphold standards and attend meetings.
- Keep CPD up to date and ensure safeguarding and wellbeing policies are followed.
- Undertake additional duties as required and demonstrate flexibility across locations.
Qualifications & Experience
- AET, Cert Ed, PGCE, or equivalent teaching qualification (Essential)
- Maths Grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level 2 (Essential)
- Assessor qualification (Essential)
- Experience teaching learners with diverse abilities or learning needs (Essential)
- SEN qualifications (Desirable)
- Knowledge of EHCPs (Desirable)
