Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Substations) London or Manchester (Hybrid working) We are seeking a customer facing Electrical Design Engineer (Substations) to work on a permanent basis in either London or Manchester (Hybrid working model). Our client is a leading global consultancy providing data centre services, specializing in the development and operation of high-performance, scalable, and secure data centre facilities. They serve a diverse range of clients, including cloud service providers, telecommunications companies, and enterprise customers.
Requirements
Detailed design of substations with strong experience in substation designs between 110kV to 400kV.
Assisting the Electrical Engineer in substation design and build execution ensuring all projects are technically sound, compliant with relevant national and international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, BS), and delivered on schedule and budget.
Solid understanding of protection and control concepts that are applicable within the substation and other electrical architecture topology
Strong Experience in delivering power system studies using ETAP. The below mentioned studies will be required to be delivered
Load Flow analysis
Short Circuit analysis
Harmonic Analysis
Protection and coordination studies
Cable calculations - HV, MV and LV
Provide technical guidance & support to AEs and EPC contractors from concept to detailed design to commissioning
Design stages involvement from campus planning to IFC and into construction support
Carry out design reviews, ensuring adherence to client specifications and national grid codes.
Multi- discipline collaboration with all stakeholders to integrate electrical design within the overall site plan.
Day to day
Attend design meetings (internal and external) both discipline-specific and multi-disciplinary coordination calls.
Generate technical reports, calculation packages, and design justification documents
Provide feedback and regular reports
Review of milestone designs released by AE, commenting via ACC or similar and agreeing closure steps with the AE.
Working closely, with internal and external cross functional teams
Escalate potential issues as and when required
Travel to sites across EMEA as required (following approval)- (as a guideline, travel would be a series of 2-3 day trips)
Constructability input will be required on the data centre and substation designs
Identify opportunities for innovation, cost optimisation & schedule improvements and sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives
Location is remote (Preferred London), Dublin and Amsterdam will also be considered
Preferred software skills: ETAP (mandatory), SKM, Amtech, Ampcalc or Similar, DigSilent, Cymap
